bypassing a warning screen or changing the opening image, but will let Byson give the final answer on that.

I can't wait for "no nag". GO GO GO bysin!!!
I can say for a fact, my car will be safer without the nag screen. I never wait for the "OK" to pop up before I start backing my car out and then at some point between backing up, and getting into traffic I have to hit "OK" or the screen goes black.

what "voice directions" ??? u mean the voice feedback ? isn't that all just data burned onto the DVD ?
BTW, bysin great job ! now i cant decide which replacement image to put up

well kenji, i was just thinking that if we are able to get into the different files on the Navi disc that all it would take was making our own recordings and swapping them with the factory ones. as long as we kept the same name and file type there shouldnt be an issue....at least i would assume

well technically you can change the voice response wavs, but they would have to be encoded in the same format/bit rate/ and size just like the BMP.
PS. Thank your parents for having you bysin, your awesome man. Where are you from? I work for an IT firm and we could use (paid) interns like you.

Oh BTW: bysin,
Any luck on hacking the functionality of the PC Card slot.............imagine a world where you could hook up a WiFi card and surf the internet with your touchscreen navi and a CE based web browser(O WOW). Or plug in a USB/Flash PCMIA reader and MP3/Bluetooth support. But that seems impossible because the last time I heard of the PC slot being of any use it was for Alpine/Acura/Honda service diagnostics.

alright i finally booted up my pc and tried to do this (i'm a mac user) and the "dumpnavi" doesnt seem to run anything. Is this just a problem with my comp (has a ton of viruses) or are you not supposed to double click the "dumpnavi" app?

didn't you say you do Java ???
How do you compile your Java code ?
matelot who thinks teens just dont read nothing no more.

dumpnavi.exe on its own doesn't run anything. Look at the readme you need to use the command line to make it work. Just put all your bins file in the same folder in the dumpnavi.exe and follow the readme.

now i'm at another issue. I successfully extracted the files and was able to replace the old Back.bmp with my new one. However when i enter "dumpnavi BN2HN18B.BIN update Back.bmp" i get the message "unable to stat file Back.bmp"
what am i doing wrong?

One of the bin files, specifically the BN2HHMLD.BIN states that there is an invalid: "ECEC Header"...and i can't extract it.
Also do I need to update the "back.bmp" file for all 9 of the binary files? It seems it's on almost every one of them. Maybe I'm not getting this, but I find the "back.bmp" file, swap it out in each of the extracted binary directories, then do the "dumpnavi [binary file name] update back.bmp" command?

OK I modified the navi.exe file using a hex editor, and saved it. It saved to the same (uncompressed) size as the original navi.exe. However, when I went to update the .BIN, it compressed to two bytes more than the original file. All I did was change address 0x0900 to 90h. I found another NOP in the file and it was also 90h. I figure that's all we have to do. Why is it compressing bigger than the original? Can someone help me? Thanks!

the readme.txt file tells you how to do it. Might want to start there. You dont need to extract all the files...

OOOH oops...my badd :duoh:. Anyway it worked, but my image is a bit too shrunk, it's basically a block on the left side of the screen, how can you stretch out an image so it fills the screen? I don't have photoshop though either.

The origional Back.bmp is uncompressed, I'm working on a new version to over write it with a compressed Back.bmp to allow for a slightly larger file size.

You dont have to do it for every bin file, only the one that your car reads. Read the first few instructions to see what file that is.

Bysin said he's releasing a GUI that will work on all versions of the navi soon.... just gotta wait guys. As for the image not fitting try opening the original Back.bmp in paint or something and just clear it and paste your new picture on top and make it so it fits. Then it should show up fine on the navi.

nops in SH-4 are 0x0900.. 0x90 is x86

Awesome work bysin ... Its really cool ...
I am trying to make it work on my nav system .. but for some reason i get disc error when i try to load the new bin files from a CD disc.
BTW i have a different set of bin files in my system .
ADD.bin
BN2HH12C.BIN .... (6 bin starting with B)
zzz10.bin

ya andsx i had that same file list and i also got the disc read error. I just restarted the electronics in the car after i got the error (with the cd i burned in the back) and held map, menu, cancel and i still got into the diagnostics menu. From there i just hit load disc and it worked out fine, it loaded and i put the original back in

I just updated the software http://www.linuxkiddies.com/bysin/navi.zip
It allows you to update your Back.bmp even when the filesize is a little bit over the origional filesize. I also included an example modified Back.bmp. I'm comming out with a navi-nonag.exe within the next couple hours.
