Are the rear 6x9's just direct drop-in replacements or do they need spacers too?

As for the 6-1/2" door speakers...do all 4 doors need these mounting spacers? And where can I get these spacers? What are these spacers for?

Thanks

I'm also looking to get the Infinity speakers all around

Check out my post #23 in this thread. I have some pictures of when I did my speaker swap.

The 6x9s are a direct drop-in, no spacers required. The screw holes on standard 6x9 speakers should match up with the screw holes in the rear deck.

The OEM 6-1/2" door speakers have a plastic enclosure that snaps into holes in the door. Any aftermarket speaker will have screw holes for mounting so you will either need to drill holes in the door metal to match up with the speaker mounting holes or buy/make an adapter/spacer. The second reason for the spacer is that most aftermarket speakers are deeper than the OEM speakers (due to a larger magnet) so you need a spacer between the speaker and the door to make sure that the magent doesn't interfere with the window when open. Note the speakers that I installed had wooden spacers that allowed me to bolt them into existing holes on the doors and then affix the speakers to the spacers using the speaker mounting holes. There are ready-made spacers you can buy for this purpose but the make and model escapes me at the moment. If you search the Audio & Video forum you'll find a number of threads on this.

make sure your spacers are not too wide(forgot exactly what size) but on my '04 i bought spacers that were 1/2 too wide and i had a hard time putting the door panel back on(bottom corner would not snap back on properly)..here's a couple links you can check out...hope it helps...

You really should go to Audio & Video in Off Topic

I've left this thread open because its an old thread with good info. If I close it then it'll drop off the horizon of new posts.

I went to Best Buy to check Infinity speakers and they sounds nice and clear. It is on sale until Oct 1st. It save you about $110 dollar. I am considering to buy Infinity 6012I for front/rear and 9612I for rear deck or Infinity REF6010CS component speakers for front, 6012I in rear and 9612I for rear deck. What do you guys think? Hey Cjams, any suggestion? If I decide to buy it then I will install it myself at home instead of installation at Best Buy.

Best Buy is a rip off. Those component speakers can be had for $125 instead of the $200 best buy is charging for them.

Hey Best Buy quote $201.99 but they offer $160.99 on sale until Oct 1st. That's good deal for $125.00 from millionbuy.com. I will check it out. I will plan to porder one from Best buy thru my Best Buy card but need to figure it out on component speakers. I cant wait to put on my CGTSX soon.

The RF6010CS may be underpowered if you're planning on using them with the stock amp.

Threads can be moved to a different forum within the TSX Community. Unfortunately, the Audio & Video forum is part of Off Topic so this thread cannot be moved there. That is why I am encouraging any new questions to be asked in Audio and Video and to limit the discussion here to CJams' install.

I prefer Infinity Kappa Series. I have Alpine TypeS 6x9 and they are decent speakers for its price. I got them because of cheap price and think I paid around $70 for a pair of them like 1.5 years ago.

My setup is like this:

Front
AVI (Direct XL) 6.5" Components

Middle
Rockford Fosgate 6.5"

Rear
Alpine TypeS 6x9

Trunk
Two Phoenix Gold Octane 12" Subs
Phoenix Gold Octane Mono Amp

If I were to do again, I'll go with all Infinity Kappa series and two JL W6 12" or one W7 12"

Was this in the same set-up/vehicle as the Infinity ones, or two totally different set-ups/vehicles?
I've been contemplating doing the speaker upgrade - plus iPod integration - and Focal were the ones I was going to use.
Focals are nicely made speakers and they do sound really clear. But Focal Components hits way too high for my taste and its better suited to like classical music than hip hop. Also Focal's prices are way too inflated. I prefer Infinity Kappa because they are priced about right and has clear and smooth sound compared to high pitched Focals. It all depends on what kind of music you listens to most.

Okay I will check it out before I made my decision to buy speakers. But Kappa series cost a little more than Infinity. I want to get best speakers for my car especially I am deaf. I can heard a little and feel it. I don't want to be waste of money to spend if I am not satisfield. Thanks minkl81.

Hey I already ordered and installed the Infinity speakers into my TSX today and I love it. I am happy with it. Infinity sounds nice and loud. I am considering to buy 4 channel amps for 6.5 only or 4 and 6 channel for 6.5 and 6x9, but $$$$. Thanks to Cjams.

References series, yeah. I have been considering to buy Infinity 1011t but not sure if it is worth or not to purchase it. Because I am deaf guy who can hear the music pretty well and feel the sounds and bass. That's why I am not sure if I should get Infinity tweeter or not.

Glad it helped. I still don't have any plans on upgrading the Infinity's. They sound great after more than a year. Although I will most likely remove the 6x9's and replace them with 8" speakers. I think I have it figured out. I just gotta find the right 8s. before that project goes forward.

Well, Infinity came with the metal bracket, it almost same as spacers. But I did cut a little hole on front and rear doors with dremel tool. I did installation on speakers as first time in my life and did do good job. You have to put mask tape on door then hold the metal bracket there then use a black marker and draw there. It helped me a lot and easy way to cut the hole on door. If you don't feel comfortable to cut the hole on door then look up on google for spacers.

NO one mentions frequency range here. When I look to replace speakers that do the bass work, I look for the lowest, even though that may not mean the bass is tight, or they sound the best. I played in a band in the 60's. Bass is supposed to be tight not like an elephant passing gas which is what some rap seems to sound like today. Music overloaded to one end (bottom) is not balanced. They make equalizers so you can boost bass and treble but also back off so one can hear the rest of the music. As to self installation, My '87 Integra was soooo easy. The door grills came right off and the screws holding them on were easy to get at and my Infinity 6 1/2 Kappas slid right in. My '96 GS-R had paper conel Pioneer speakers in it - I went with Boston Acoustics. Rear shelf speakers should never be paper conesl - sun rots them eventually.

So, when I do decide to purchase an amp in the future, what kind/type should I get? 2-channel, 4-channel, 6-channel?...I have no idea which to get...also have no idea about the appropriate amp wattage.

Thanks for eveyone's help and advice...as you can tell, I'm very unfamiliar with car audio but doing my best to understand
Speakers have individual power requirements. I don't know how much of the TSX'x 360 watts gets to the rear but if you get a speaker with high efficiency (does not suck up as much power) it won't lose volume. Look at the requirement specs. Some may not handle the output of the TSX's 360 watts either.

2 quick questions - can I/we get a quick recap on what ohm rating replacement speakers should be to minimise volume loss, as well as sensitivity rating? Sticking to the factory installed unit and no additional amps for now.
Also, has what's opinion on the Dynaudio kit/components these days?

Thanks guys

I'm pretty sure the factory speakers are all rated at 4 Ohms. Sensitivity isn't listed anywhere I can find, but since they're made by Pioneer, who usually has efficient speakers, I'd take a guess at ~92 dB.
