Looking to buy 2005 with 90k miles, what do you think?

Looking to get a second car to be used as daily driver, mostly short trips to work (2 miles away). Found a 2005 TSX Base AT with 90k miles asking price $10995. Fits my budget and needs. Clean carfax, one owner, services done since new at local Acura dealer.

Any suggestions or concerns I should be aware of? Also what changes or upgrades were implemented on the 2006 model year?

Thanks guy

It sounds like a pretty fair price, according to KBB.

I own a 2005 with 72,000 miles on it. I bought it new in April '05. I've done all my own maintenance, and have only been to the dealership for a few fixes that were under warranty (mostly minor).

A few changes they made for 2006 was the integration of the fog lights in the front bumper, Bluetooth phone integration, low-profile wipers, and a new standard wheel style. I believe they also bumped the HP by 5.

Also added was the maintenance nanny, trip computer, memory seat (driver's), and TPMS in 07. I have an 05 (also bought new April 05) w/ 141K miles and love it (we also have an 07). The service record is good (and a bounus). You'll have a few one time items (at least for another 100K miles) due at around 110K miles, but other than that, your maintenances cost won't change much. I'd say the price is $1K to $1.5K high, but that can depend on location and how bad you want the car I guess.

So no maintenance nanny, trip computer, memory seat, and TPMS for 2005? Not a deal breaker, but I sure got used to those from my MDX.

Thanks for replying.

Simba's correct. All those features came in 06, except for the TPMS, which came in 07.

I found another 2005 Base, clean title, one owner too, 9000 miles, yes, 9000 miles for under $15k, have not seen it in person, but looks very clean from pictures. A little more money than what I was willing to pay, but tempting.

Here are some of the differences I've notice from 05 to 06 that made it worth going with the 06 for me:
- 2 person memory seats, 4 way power seat on passenger (05 has power passenger seat)
- Faster updated Navi with extra features (more voice commands, faster searches/recalculations, Zagats restaurant guide, etc..)
- Wider seat bolsters (04/05 seats were too narrow for my love handles)
- Updated M.I.D.
- Bluetooth
- Engine breaths better for more HP, closer to 12-15hp because of new HP calculations, 04/05 is closer to 190-195 HP and 06/07/08 are 205 HP.
- A little faster acceleration, more bang for the buck with future mods (hondata, S/C)
- Standard Fog lights
- HID seamed brighter on the 06 compared to the 05 I had for a loaner a few years ago
- Thicker steering wheel (I like the 10 and 2 wheel bumps)
- Updated shift knob for 5AT
- Low profile wipers
- No metal trim on hood above the grille
- Two years to correct squeaks, rattles, TSB problems (so far no problems with 06)
- Only difference between the 06 models compared to the 07/08 is just Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and the higher price for those models.

What worry the most about my 06 are the luxury items I listed above, Will they last +150,000 miles? Having an 05 without those items might be a better high mileage commuter vehicle compared to the 06. Time will tell....

Nicely compiled list and well said.

Yes, the only thing bad about homelink (which might be the same for the MDX) is it stays active without a key. If you park your car outside, they can break a window and open your garage. I think the standard TSX alarm will not sound with a broken window.

That is the one thing I wish Acura would give us the option to change.

Personally I feel the homelink feature is alot safer than having the garage door opener attached onto the visor. I know you can carry it but that could become an inconvenience at times.

The price sounds pretty fair. We picked up our 2004 last sept with 78k for 10,900.

I just picked up a 2005 tsx w/ Nav from a friend with 4,500 miles on it. That's right, you read it correctly. He never drove it at all. His parents used it to run errands here and there. And I'm the second owner. Only paid $12k for it. Which I think is a great price for a fairly brand new car.

So I ended up getting an 07 w/Nav with 51K miles. It has the squeaking steering wheel issue coming from the steering column.

Has anyone ever tried to have that fixed if out of warranty under good will?

I have all the service on my 06 tsx done by a acura dealer I think is excellent. I have some service done free under goodwill after the warranty. This is when going to a dealership pays off.

It depends on how the car was maintained and driven those 117K miles. I own a 06 tsx, since new. I have all the service done by acura/honda dealers. Excellent problem free car. Love it.

As stated elsewhere, it will all depend on how well the car was maintained for those 117K miles. I'm just shy of 146K on my 05 and it has been trouble free. It was dealer maintained (and then some by me) for the first 100K, then by me since then. I've stayed on top of it since new and it shows. You should try to obtain service records and/or a service history of the car. Also, read the owner's manual so you'll know what needs to be done and when, and perhaps if what was supposed to be done was done.

The Carfax helps, but it's not always entirely accurate. Your best is to find a mechanic (indie or at a dealer) to do a pre-purchase inspection. The seller should be ok with that, as it shows you're serious. It'll probably cost around $100 for a fairly detailed inspection, but you'll have an excellent idea of the car's condition, history and what needs to be done.

not always true-I have my 06 tsx serviced either by Lehigh Valley Acura in Pa or Stevenson Acura in NC. One of the times while getting my car serviced at LV I asked to see the carfax on my car. Only a service from Reno Acura (had the oil changed there while on a cross country trip) and a recall were on it. I found out from LV-they do not share service info with carfax. I guess Stevenson does not either. So if you were to look at my car's report you would think it was rarely serviced. I have kept all receipts and also have the maintenance book filled out and stamped.

I'm from Minnesota, and I'd never buy a 6-year-old car as my daily driver. With the amount of salt they put on the roads up here, I'd be seeing some rust before the car loan was paid.
