leather on knob

This is the first time i've had a leather knob this worn before and I have no idea how to fix it. The pictures below are the best i have on describing how worn it is. Is there any way to restore it to a better looking condition?

Please note that the side is also scratched up.

Take a Black Sharpie to it... Let it dry then hit again... If not, break down and get a new one bro...

Black sharpie will just make it look purple. Plus it'll really stink. Maybe black shoe polish? If you're really serious, maybe take it to a shoe repair shop.

I think the black shoe polish will work. Let it dry and buff it up!!

Looks like it went to the moon and back. Whoever owned it before must've rub on it alot lol. I mean its not like its from a manual where it is handled at all time. Poor knob , Please get a new one!

Just get a new one.... I think they go for ~$30 shipped on ebay, not worth it to try to fix it.

How'd it get that worn anyway, do you wear a ring?

It came from a smashed up 01 CL. The CL rolled a few times in the crash so the top ofthe car was sitting on this knob for a few yrs. I just took it and thought maybe it could be salvaged. I'll try that shoe polish and see what happens.

Let us know if the shoe polish works. If it does, perhaps write up a DIY. Post before and after pics.

Since it's peeling, I'd say go get a new one.

If you just want to make it look black again, you should use "shoe creme" instead of shoe polish. It was recommended to me by a leather place for a weathering black leather jacket because it's more of a dye than a polish. You should be able to find it at most shoe places.

Or take it to one of those places that dye shoes.

Try taking it to a tandy, and seeing about leather restoration tech's. Neetsfoot oil, then re-dye it, and use neetlac on it.
