Lane Keeping Assist System

It's in the 2007 euro accord....why not in our 2007 TSX? that's a nice feature.

^ what exactly does it do and how? lane keeping assist system almost sounds like something out of knight rider

I think they need to put sensors in the road for that to work.

It's a really neat system which uses a camera mounted above the rearview camera to monitor the lines on the road. This info is sent to an ecu which analyzes the info using algorithms which in turn helps you steer the car. Essentially, you don't have to steer, just keep your hand(s) on the steering wheel and turn slightly in the direction the lane goes and the car will figure out the rest.

a lot of the new high end cars (lexus, mercedes) have these gadgets on them. really didn't expect to see it on our acuras (aside from RL maybe) for a few more years.

it's okay, it picks up the white lines off the lanes and if your coming out of your lane without signaling a tone alerts you.. the M35/M45 have this feature.. it's sometimes annoying, but you can turn it off.

Have you guys seen new Lexus lx 430(?) that is coming out.. It has this one feature where the car can parellel park itself. Its kind of cool feature but it takes while.

The Honda system doesn't just alert you, it steer the car for you.

Doesn't this system work with adaptive cruise control to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you while maintaining your lane. I think this system will only work on cruise control hwy driving situations.

How does the system know if you are changing lanes normally compared to drifting because you dosed off?

I wish they had this system for those Big SUV drivers that love to yak on their cell phones and drifting into your lane.

it alerts you if you leave the lane without your blinker turned on. If it is effective, i think this should officially be made mandatory by the government as soon as possible. i can't tell you how irritating it is in NJ with the amount of people who change lanes without signaling.

The effectiveness may Depend on how smart the video camera system is at interpreting the different lane markings on Interstate, state road and rural roads. It would be easier to standardize the road markings in a smaller country like England compared to USA. We have only two major interstates in New Mexico and 50 times as many 2 and 4 lane state/rural roads with speed limits 55, 65 and 70 mph. They range from single yellow lines, double yellow lines, white single, Yellow single with yellow dash, no line/dashes on shoulder, no shoulder, no lines at all, yellow/white round reflectors and probably a few more I’ve haven’t seen yet.

Either the system has to be very smart to interpret any road conditions, smart enough to warn us that it cannot work with the current road conditions, or it runs us off the road into a corn field. It would have to be a system that could be turned on/off manually and overridden by the driver’s input.

I would get more use from the Adaptive cruise control with my driving habits in New Mexico.

is there any way to get that steering wheel? anyone know how much it would cost? or would that airbag fit in out steering wheel?

well, what you say is true, if poeople completely rely on it and don't look at the road themselves. i imagine if it doesnt sense a line, it won't be able to alert you. but in most conditions, i don't see a problem. it's the same paint used everywhere, so it's not that hard to configure a sensor to see it.
