Kinda Sad to be saying this but.....
I may be selling my '05 CGP TSX, we'll although I love what the car offers, but the POWER definitely killing me, so I found a 2004 STi, so I may be trading it in soon, so anyone looking to TRADE a CGP stock hood for a ViS CF+cash, and a Injen CAI. It is not final yet, so just wanted to let everyone know and well, is it a good choice, well I know it is, but still... But if I do leave, I just wanted to thank you VERY much for all the time and great advise I have gotton, and I will try to keep active on these forums and try to get to a meet or 2 so meet all of the NYC area guys and gals.

You want something fast. Get a Z.
For me, there is too much maintenance for 4 banger with a turbo.
Big V6 like the Z will have a whole lot less problem in the long run.

An STi is a cool car but cops will love to pull you over in it and you will probably grow out of it quickly unlike the Acura. Nonetheless, good luck with your new car.

MY GOD! people who live at sealevel and complain about power make me sick! you should try owning a car at 6500 feet and see what a lack of power is like.
that said, sure the TSX could use a little more power, what car couldnt? but is it worth getting a Subaru over?
my friend had a WRX wagon that upgraded to a cobb stage 3 tuning kit. definitly had more power than stock, bue even so if he tried to race me from a standstill without dropping the clutch at 5k for a good launch it still took him till 3rd gear before he could pass me! that WRX would spank a stock STI with the mods he had.
so what did he do? 6 months ago he tradded his fully modded WRX for a 05 6 speed TSX after getting pulled over for the 3rd time in the last 3 years of ownership. prior to that never even got looked at by a cop.
He loves the TSX wouldnt even consider trading back!

Also consider the life span/maintence especially for a STi ( Subarus) in general, dont see to many high mileage ones on the street running fine compared to Acura.
Plus STi Maintence > TSX Maintence price wise, but if you have it like that shouldn't be a problem.

Hey, Bass Mechanic, I've experience what thin air will do for an engine; I pulled out to pass a car in my father's Jeep Grand Cherokee, climbing a mountain at 4,500 ft, and - there just wasn't any more there.
A neighbour across the street has an STi, he loves it, and it has been bullet-proof. The only "problem" is that the police keep pulling him over, when he's not doing anything wrong, looking for STOLEN WRX's.
And finally, if you can't go fast with 200hp... you need to go to racing school!

at sealevel people were reporting 1/4 times pretty consistantly in the 15.3 range.
in pueblo colorado about 6500 feet the best time i could get with running just SS mode was a 16.959 i found that by manually shifting the gates from L to 2 to 3 just before hitting fuel cutoff in each gear (ss mode wont allow you to shift the 1-2 shift when you want to) got me a best time of 16.655
thats a pretty big difference.
also when i drove the TL to sealevel areas i could literally smoke the tires for several feet off a stoplight. in colorado you would be lucky to bust them loose unless there was gravel on the road.
same with my TSX in Kansas city KS (granted it was 10 degrees outside) i could leave the stop at a roll and without dumping the clutch or doing anything but stomping the gas in 1st gear several times i was able literally smoke the tires to redline and they would keep spinning for a while untill i lifted.
in colorado that would be a wet dream!

The STi would make a killer car if you want something more fun to drive. And as for the reliability it was rated one of the top five in the small to midsized catagory in two independant surveys. Subaru engines are known for being bulletproof, the only thing to worry about is having to much fun and crashing it. The only think to consider would be getting the Legacy GT for a more under the radar car with a bit more luxury (and then getting a Cobb stage two kit to give it some extra grunt). Go FOR IT!!!

The dealer i went to just got in the Legacy GT Spec B, with the Navi and stuff.....Looks hot, but something about the STi, that makes it.....well, ummm.....EYEBALLING, my friend has a 2005 Black, silver rims and we were driving back from the dealer and the looks this car gets makes you feel good about yourself, and well, when someone rolls his window down at a light and says your car is hot, and his is stock, it sure is a good feeling.....LIKE RESPECT, all comes with a price, AKA the interior...my car is probably going to be a 2004 Silver, silver rims.

Actually i have seen a few people switch out the drive train in their LGT for the STI's which is supper hott. The STi is definately more of a hardcore car than the LGT. Post a review once you get to drive it for a while!

I thought about getting the Legacy GT with leather etc. prior to getting my TSX with Navi. Yes, I'd had a lot more fun stepping on the pedal with the Legacy than the TSX, but on second thought, as I get older, I know I'd prefer something more comfortable and refined for the interior. Yes, you can make mods onto a STI to make it look more customized and fancier (like I did with my previous car), but you will never be able to make the interior "luxurious". It really depends on your situation, if you're only keeping the STI for a short couple years, by all means, have fun with it. And yes, even in Canada, a lot of STis have been pulled over for no specific reason just because of the car itself. But comparing the STI to a TSX is like apples and oranges. It really depends on your taste...

Being an ex-WRX owner, I can give you some insight:
STI is faster when it hits 80 mph and beyond.
TSX is more crash worthy.
STI has all wheel drive.
TSX has no turbo lag.
STI is not as practical, disprite it's a 4 door. Can't fold down the back seats.
TSX is very comfy.
STI can be stolen in 30 seconds, no joke.
TSX is more reliable.
Good luck!

The Comptech Supercharger will fulfill my power needs. I don't need anymore power than that, plus with it you can still get good gas mileage.
STi and EVO's have too much of a boy racer look going on.

u got that right, was at a recent meet, well back in sept or so, and saw this guy with a HUGE turbo, and is putting some HP to the wheels what i cant even count too.....no TSX will EVER be there, not to justify anything, cause it is my decision and mine alone, but u know i will always be a AZ guy.....another week or so...

The compressor has a butterfly valve that reroutes intake air so it can bypass the compressor at idle/cruising speeds.
The SRT-4 is also another example of one of the other faster "boy racer" cars out there based on an econobox... But I'd never own one as my main source of transportation, I need something thats classy, thats also easy to drive and live with, but isn't afraid to handle whenever I want to throw it around. The only track cars I'd ever consider in the STi's price range would be either the S2000 or Evolution.
