Kilowatts of Power
Outside the US, the media describe engine power in terms of kilowatts of power.
Example:
"The Accord V6 is more powerful than the Commodore six, with 177 kilowatts of power to the Commodore's 152 kilowatts, although Ford's latest six puts out 5 kilowatts more than the Accord with 182 kilowatts."
I have no idea what kilowatts are other than it must be another one of those metric things for what we call horsepower???
Help me please! How do you convert kilowatts to horsepower (aka "hawse power" or "whores' power")?
By the way, the quote is from an article that questions naming the Accord and the Euro Accord the same in the Oz market. Link is
Twin set
Many of you will be pleased that the article sez the two Accords are very different.
It's also curious how competing models are positioned differently in other countries. The article suggests that the Toyota Avalon is comparable to the V6 Accord, whereas here in US, the Avalon is notch above the Camrys and Accords. Marketing is a topsy-turvey adventure!

Another nugget of information in the article that is related to the Accord Euro/TSX is:
"Then there is the smaller Accord Euro, which was introduced in June. It was designed in Japan with input from the company's German research and development centre, and it is made only in Japan. It comes with a four-cylinder engine."
Honda got input from their German R&D center? That's the first I ever heard of that.

another reason why the metric system rocks. USA is one of the only few countries that use our very own system.
anyways, its amazing that Australia only predicted to sell about 300 "accord/euro" cars and they are selling 600 now...
I haven't heard anything about the Toyota Avalon for a long time. Must be time for a redesign?

The Avalon is on a stretched Camry platform. They make them in Kentucky along with Camrys. I think Toyota exports Avalons to Japan. Avalons never appealed to me. They have this overstated grill. I think Toyota positions them against Buicks--also known for some overstated grills. Figures!
When I was a kid, I was scared of Buick grills! They looked like big nasty fangs!
Did I hijack my own topic?
Oh, kilowatt powers. Does anyone know how to convert kilowatt power to horsepower?

Does anyone know how to convert kilowatt power to horsepower?
Sure, 1 HP = .745578 Kw
Thus, the TXS engine has 200 x .746 = 149 Kw of power. The Accord V6 engine corresponding to the above post would have 177/.746 = 237 HP.

Gosh, American marketing would never go for Kw. Why? It's a "smaller" number!

I was in Europe this past week. It was funny to try to convert everything. Like Euros/liter of gasoline to dollars per gallon. Or Euros/gram of gold to USD/ounce, etc.
