Issue with rear brakes on new 08 TSX

Hello all,

I was driving my new TSX and all of a sudden, I hear a loud noise coming from my rear disc brakes. It sounded like a loud screech, kind of like when you need your brakes replaced, only 10x louder. Its like if a piece of metal wire was touching the rear discs. The noise come on anytime the car was in motion, even if i was only going 2mph. My first thought was that my parking brake didn't disengaged, but it did. I decided to drive home since I was only a few miles away. Right before I arrived, the noise went away. Any ideas? The car only has 2000 miles.

I'm taking it to the dealer first thing tomorrow morning.

Thanks!

Maybe parking brake did not really dis-engage or malfunctioned. I have an 08 and absolutely no issues so far

True, but even if it didn't dis-engage it still shouldn't make any noise. It would just slow the car down.

Take a look at the rotor to see if there's a new circle from something that was scratching it.

That happened to me about 10 months ago with my '07 and it did it once and then went away and never came back. Never figured out what it was.

^I agree. That happened to me last month, where some gravel got stuck between the pad + the rotor and kept grinding. The screeching was driving me crazy until it stopped and then I was relieved because I thought it was something serious.

The dealer just called me and informed me that both rear calipers were sticking. They are replacing both rear calipers, rotors, and brake pads. They won't have the parts until the 21st

Good thing I'm getting a loaner car.

Krikey! That sucks. Hopefully they grease the shitola out of the parts that need it when they replace it.

I once got a piece of mulch somehow stuck between the rotor and the splash guard behind the disc on my old Civic. It was being amplified by the thin metal of the splash guard. After all the noise I was sure I was going to find a big gouge in my rotor. Thankfully, being that it was wood, all it did was make a really shiny streak on the rotor.

Good luck once it's fixed. Don't let this incident spoil your decision on the car. In general they're very reliable.

I've gotten a rock stuck in there a couple times on different cars. Sounds crazy!

Thanks for the luck. I won't let this incident spoil my love for the car. Its just kind of shitty when your BRAND new car makes uglier and louder sounds then an 1980's ford pinto.

Acura better make this right. If not, i smell a lemon law

Cool your guns cowboy. One thing at a time. Don't use "lemon law" lightly. You have no idea what the issue is. Give them a chance to figure it out.

I highly doubt it. The noise was coming from BOTH rear brakes. What are the chances that both of them have a stone stuck in them at the same time?

That is the best idea. Obviously the car is under warranty still. Let us know what happens. Both of you....

Don't worry. Your dealer seems to be taking care of you. I've found the Acura service to be quite good. Rest assurred, you have a good car!

Well I went to the deal and I was told that it's a common issue with all acura's and that I have nothing worry about. HE began to tell me, well I'm sure you experience it when you drive the car early in the morning. I then looked at him with this look like he was an idiot, and I told him, ummm no, I experience it after I have been driving the car for a while. A while being an hour or two, Los Angeles Traffic. He then looked at the rear rotors when his suggestion was shot down, and he maybe it's rust on them. He looked and guess what no rust. So he then said K I will have the mechanic look at hit. not even 3 minutes later okay your car is ready. The mechanic said it's a common thing and not to worry about it. This was at Acura of Tustin by the way. I was pissed off by this, since I drove for two hours on the 405 south because of traffic, since it was raining.

Dude, just go to the closest dealer. There was no reason to drive that distance!

K dude... I figure I'd go to that one since I was suppose to have a specific mechanic look at the brakes.... Also I didn't want those bastards to give me lip had I taken the car somewhere else. Given that some dealers are shady and will do and say anything to clean their hands of problems.
