I'm curious as to which companies give the best insurance rate for TSXs. I know age, driving history, coverage, and area are all factors but still would be interested. If you want to participate, pls post the info for:

Sex: M or F
Age: Be honest old ppl
City: Where you live
Insurance Co:
Deductible: $500-1000 is typical
Coverage: 50/100 - 100/300 is typical
Comments: if you have other policy discounts, accidents or points on your record, etc.

Finally got the bill. Ok I guess from what I've seen here so far.

Sex: M
Age: 27
City: San Diego, CA
Insurance Co: Liberty Mutual
Deductible: $1000
Coverage: 100/300, 50/100 unins.
Amount: $1,743 a year
Comments: I get several discounts including multiple policy for condo insurance. If you haven't looked into condo / renters insurance, it's like $200 / year for about $30,000 of coverage (if things get stolen, fire, flood etc.) and it'll typically reduce your car insurance by about $200, so it's basically free and worth looking into.

Insurance Co: La Capitale
Deductible: $500
Coverage: Full full full with extras (free loaner, insurance coverage if I rent a car...)

Comments:
Lost 7 points (got caught doing 165km/h in a 100km/h zone) in 2003
Lost 3 points (got caught doing 35 over the limit in a school zone) in 2003
Non responsible accident 800$ in 2004
Most companies would not even give me a quote because of the 7 points infraction. It will dissappear from my drivers license this summer but insurance companies keep it on the record for 3 years.
I needed to have Sherlock done (major parts marked) for a lower rate on the theft portion of the premium though.
AssurNat would have been cheaper if I didn't have any speeding tickets but you need a Boomerang
Belair wasn't bad but you also need a Boomerang
I hate having to pay for a tracking service such as Boomerang, It really does add up at the end of the year. (I already have a Viper Alarm with all the extras, I would be really surprised if someone would succeed in stealing it.

Hope this helps!

I had fun laughing at their commercials, but that's about all that was funny about my quote call. The guy told me on the phone that was the highest quote he'd ever seen.

this is funny! its amazing to me how little all of you know about your coverage. and some of you in fact most of you would probably get sued if you caused an accident with thoes coverages listed.
and FWIW most of you are paying too much for the coverage you have
i carry 250/500 liability 100K property damage. 500 deductibles on comp and collision and i pay $450 every 6 months or about 900 a year for the TSX
not only that i get a cash refund of my auto and home premiums back every year. for me is = to about $550.00 each year in refunds for being claim free.

if any of you would like to know how to get some decent coverage and would also like to receive 25% of your money back after being claim free for 3 years PM me your zipcode and ill hook you up with an agent from my company to give you a quote.
depending on where you live we may not be as competitive but if you live in colorado i can assure you wont find a better deal than i can get you.

why do you carry lower limits on your uninsured liability?? do you not care if you have enough coverage for yourself?

Would have been $1450 w/$500 collision deductible.

why are your coverages so low?

and to the rest of you guys. do any of you know what these limits mean?
do you know that if you cause an accident and someone gets seriously hurt or killed their expenses will exceede these policy limits?
do you know what happens then?
you get sued!!!
ask yourself this question, say someone injures you in an accident. your messed up bad and in the hospital for months, you lost time from work and need to be compensated for that, and you may have a long term injury that you would want pain and suffering for.
what do you think the chances are that 50,000 would cover it all?
let me help you out here a little. given the cost of medical care in this country 50,000 would last you about 1 day in the ER at any hospital, an ambulance ride to the hospital costs 5 grand. flight for life typically runs about 15-20 grand.
now lets talk pain and suffering. sky is the limit here!!
do any of you know what happens if you cause an injury that exceeds your policy limits?
YOU PAY THE REST! not your insurance company.
IMO and since i do this for a living none of you should carry any less than 250/500 limits i know we all like to save insurance costs but belive me if you get blamed for or cause an accident there is a good chance you will exceede thoes policy limits and you will get sued for the rest.
belive it or not the court can rule that they garnish up to 2/3rds of your income intill the injured persons are compensated for the damages you caused. you can also loose your house if you own one.

Comments: No accidents in 5 years, along with all the safety discounts on the 2005 TSX I get a defensive driver discount, multi-policy discount and multi-car discount. It should also be noted my TSX is a "pleasure" vehicle. My daily driver is a company issued (and company paid for so I can't complain too much) 2004 Pontiac Aztek.

State Farm was great with the free rental car from Hertz for a full month while I shopped for a new car (got an '04 TSX 6MT / Navi last June). No tickets or accidents in the last 3 years. Very low deductibles, and low rate for insurance too. No way I'd switch.

Maybe he has good Medical coverage. I carry UM because it's stat, SUM becaue it's only like $20 and PIP, APIP and OBEL because combine they are like $10... but really they're kind of worthless if you have good Medical coverage and MedPay.

what about passengers and pemanent pr temporary disability? what about lost income? your medpay and or PIP wont do anything for these situations. the part that really fries me is the fact that just increasing your BI limits and UMBI will probly cost about 5 bucks a month yet people are so set on the point of saving a few bucks they leave themselves underinsured.
pathetic really...

First, nobody likes a sermon. Second… NY is a no fault state, so PIP and APIP DOES pay for Driver, Passenger and Pedestrian (including myself if struck by someone else) injury, loss of services, lost time, etc. OBEL can cover that as well. Medpay is AWESOME because it always pays immediately no matter what… goodwill coverage. Honestly, because of liberal claimant oriented laws, one accident can hit on PIP/APIP, Medpay AND UM/UIM coverages even though they are redundant.

Anyway, people should carry the lowest limits they can to meet the underlying requirements for an Umbrella Policy. $1mm of coverage is cheap (sometimes cheaper than carrying higher limits on your PAP), covers more than just your car and is enough money to make most things go away.

Most of all, even with those people with very low limits, the policies will pay for defense costs, and that is an added coverage, so those expenses are not part of your limits. At the very least, they will have their defense covered.

obviously laws are a lot different in NY than CO personally i think medpay is a waste of money. money better spent on a health insurance policy because health insurance covers a lot more than just auto injuries.

i agree about the umbrella coverage about 80% of my clients carry 1 mill or more. we dont have PIP anymore we are a tort state.
my companies requirements are 250/500 for auto and 300 K liability for home to get 1 mill in coverage. its only 13 bucks a month for the 1 mill coverage. so i usually make that a minimum requirement in fact in over 700 policies in force my agency has not 1 single vehicle insured less than 250/500 limits.

but some of these guys on this board running around with 50/100 limits and bragging about their low rates doesnt impress me at all. in fact i think its disgusting any insurance agent would sell that coverage and have their client walk away with the impression they are "fully covered" when nothing could be farther from the truth. ive already seen several instances where people sued for pain and suffering and won cases that went far beyond 250k per person.
i feel that when the state of colorado gave me my license i took an oath to my clients i would protect them and their assets as well as their families from a potential lawsuit.
i take my job seriously and i never play games with someone trusting my ability to do exactly that.
im not giving a Sermon, just stating facts. and i think with the gravity of the subject (taking on that responcibility) it's important people know the facts. the fact is that based on studies conducted by the department of transportation the average cost of a seriously injured survivor of an accident is $706,000

people that carry 50,000 limits because they want to save a few bucks are actually putting their income and assets in the hands of a shady insurance salesman who seeks a quick commission check.

because i value the respect and trust i get from my clients knowing they have put their faith in me to handel their insurance needs. its no wonder i am the lead producer for my company out of over 250 agents in the state of colorado. its also no suprise i have a 99% customer retention ratio. there is somthing to be said for selling quality insurance verses crap.

this is a concept many companies that have 1-800 numbers and no personal agents but rather customer service reps that can hide behind a telephone sell some junk insurance, collect their commission check and forget about what happens to the people they supposedly helped with their insurance.

i on the other hand would have to face my clients directly and explain why the coverage i sold them allowed their house and 2/3rds of their income be garnished from a court order because of a bad accident they caused and i dropped the ball. no sir not on my watch!
call it a sermon or call it what you like. i call it taking responcibility and setting a standard when others turn and look the other way.

as i said before laws in NY are a lot different then here, it sounds like your pretty confident with the coverage you have. so it seems that if your ok with it you have no one to blame but yourself if you ever need it and it turns out to be insufficient. ill admidt what you describe is a far cry better than some of the limits people in this thread apparently assume is good enough. i dont know if your licensed or not i sure hope you are if your going to give advise though.

sorry for the thread hijack folks

Geez, you would LOVE 1-800-SAFE-AUTO, state min limits only!

People should be given all the facts and left to make up their own minds, it's like smoking: inform people of their choices and let them weigh the pros and cons (and consequences) for themselves. Pushing coverage like you’re saving their immortal soul might work on small sales, but it sure doesn’t work in my line of business and I cringe when I hear it. I lay out the options, tell them the prices and clarify anything they have questions on, point out coverage gaps and suggest programs for assuming different amounts of risk. I make recommendations in a consultative manor, but if I tried to push them, they would only push back and go to some broker who has the lowest price. Then all the other benefits we bring to the table are lost anyway. As far as limits go, I almost never touch them. Everyone I sell to has an umbrella, so it's usually the standard $1mm occurrence liab and either a $1,000 or $2,500 ded on the physdam depending on vehicle cost.

PS. What the hell does it matter if I’m licensed or not? I wasn’t aware I was binding anyone by suggesting they do some research and do what’s right for them.

PPS. Medpay pays for passangers and peds, not the driver. It's a very valuable coverage and for me it costs all of $1.60 a year for $10k worth of coverage. You'd be insane not to recommend it.
