Impression on 6MT TSX?

I went to a local Acura dealer to have the call back fix and I talked to their sales manager, a guy that I know him for a long while. I told him I got a 6MT TSX and love it a lot. Then he said that the TSX is the only worth to buy on Acura line up but the only thing he dun like about TSX is its 6MT manual! He feel it is too light and he likes the feel from its E36 Manual better! Ah.... I can't remember how the E36 manual drive since haven't drive it for more than 6yr but for sure I hate my E46 manual! I drive both cars everyday and I hate my bimmer more and more, mainly because its sloppy, notchy manual shifting. And I am sure my TSX is the best manual tran that I ever have and even the best I ever drive(I haven't have chance to drive a S2000 & NSX yet)! So what you guys comments about your 6MT TSX?

Here is a list of manual car that I have driven for more than 1 week:
87 MR2 SC
87 E30 325i
93 Civic Si (EX in US)
93 626 ES
96, 99 Miata
95 Probe GT
98 A4 2.8
98 S70 T5
98 ITR
99 Prelude
00 E46 328i
01 Celica GTS
02 IS300
03 WRX
04 TSX

Hmmm... I had an S2000 last summer.......so I can't vote option 1 or 2. But I do love it, so option 3 doesn't apply to me either. Option 4 just doesn't apply.

And 5AT? What the hell is that doing here? They didn't offer it in the S2K to keep the posers out; should have done the same with their sports sedan .......

the 6mt in the TSX has been touted by reviewers and the best honda tranny outside of an s2000 (and nsx i suppose). Seeing as hondas have notoriously great manual trannies I'd say thats a pretty big compliment.

I have to rate my '94 Miata's 5-speed a little better than the TSX. So option 1 and 2 don't work for me either...

I can say that the throw of the TSX 6MT is shorter than that of the 3 series. So I prefer the TSX's.

This is my first MT car, so i can't really vote on the available options.

But i like to add that i'm getting use to driving standard, and whenever the shifter goes in gear smooth, i feel so good owning this car. Occasionally, on cold weather, it feels a bit notchy, but i guess bcoz my car is still relatively new... i hope this will improve as i drive more.

Really? Maybe I should have taken the 6mt for a test drive after all...

Long rule 5AT!

It is definitely the best MT car I have driven, thus the best I have owned.

It is a drastic improvement over the MT I had in my previous Accord.

In just what way would a 5-speed be better than a 6-speed?

The only stick cars I've driven are:
2000 Sentra SE
1998 Civic Si
1996 GSR
1998 ITR
2002 Celica GT-S
2003 911 4S

Of all these cars I have to say I love the feel of the ITR, though it had a racing clutch and shortshifter in. I say hands down the Porsche had the smoothest shift, but none the less I'm all impressed with the TSX's shifter.

The manual in the TSX is far better than my dad's maxima that i drove for a few months here in atlanta. And at 30k miles, the maxima clutch is just getting worse. I hope he can get it fixed before the warrenty runs out because i still like the 246 lbft of torque. I then drove a mazda 6 with the 5 speed manual, and it was alright. I liked how everything in the 6 was thicker, both the shifter and the steering wheel, but that just might be my 6'4" frame adjusting to those larger pieces faster. Otherwise, the shifting mechanism felt ok, it was just the other interior pieces that felt and looked very cheap. Tried to go drive an R32, but the salesman pissed me off immediately trying to sell me on a different car cuz they didn't have any R32s on the lot, and i never went back. I then drove a honda accord 6 speed 6 cylinder around the dealership before saying no. I stalled it 4 times in 2 minutes and figured it would be unsafe for me to take it onto the road. This is after i had driven that maxima for 2 years on and off, so i wasn't a complete spazz with the stick shift. Maybe it was just a bad clutch and i should have waited to try another one, but I then got in the TSX later that day, and everything immediatly felt perfect. I am still very happy with my descision, even in the stop and go of Atlanta rush our traffic. I kinda went off on a tangent didn't I... I hope it helped tho.

The 5 speed in the Miata is pretty sweet. Very short throws, very positve engagement, and well positioned lever. You just rest your arm on the center console and flick your wrist, like an S2K. And they do offer a 6-speed now.

I'm not saying it's better overall, haven't lived with one. But I drove one, and it was good.

After driving a '47 American LaFrance firetruck 4 sp that needed double clutchin, virtually any modern day MT is great. Sure, there's some subjective areas where one is better than another but overall they're about the same to me.

My only worry would be: Is this the Subie type clutch needing replacement every 60K or the Nissan one that can easily go 200K?

Biker, who will probably never own an MT long enough to find out.

the MT on Miata is really sweet and very short throws. Every shift will give you a very clear click sound like the tsx does. But I dun like the shifter keep vibrating once the car is started. So that's why I like the feel of my tsx more.

The Miata's tranny is uber-sweet. My dad had one for a long time and although it was physically impossible for me to drive the car, the transmission felt amazing. It feels like a well oiled rifle bolt. Throws are less than 2" and very solid. The S2000 has a similar feel.

The 5MT on my 99 Jeep Wrangler was awesome, extremely short shift throws.

the s2000 drives like a dream...

my friend has one so i drove my TSX and then the S2k right after and i noticed that the S2k gears go into place hard....i can't describe it...its a good feeling though....its very smooth but its different than the TSX....and damn i love how the h.i.d's bounce on an S2k more so than the TSX.
