If you had to decide between these two?

If you had to pick between owning...

1. Auto TSX with Navi

or

2. 6Speed TSX without Navi

Which would you choose?

Just curious to see what comes out on top....

well depends....where u live

a couple of my friends either love or hate their manuals because i live in Miami. Theres always traffic in miami, so stop n go is no fun. I regret not getting a nav tho. I feel like i could get distracted with a 6-speed. Also i wish i had the navi so i could do something while im waiting in traffic.

i used to drive a 5sp 00 prelude... it was great and i didn't mine driving a 5sp in traffics like sf, but after a while it becomes a "chore." and esp. after you get off a long day of work (consider 10+ hrs). so auto it is.

Why don't you use one one day, then use the other the other day

This is the exact question I asked myself before purchasing -- if I can only get 6MT or Navi, which one would I get.

No doubt about it, the 6MT (my first MT). Though, I plan to keep my TSX for a long time. If I planned to sell it after 3 years or so, I probably go the other way for resale value.

Honda don't make the Nav unit - Alpine or Sony does for the TSX.
The discs are a different kettle of fish - it's whatever Honda's prepared to pay for the updated database which determines what features it has by comparison to Garmin/Pioneer/TomTom/etc.

As for the option of manual or auto - manual every time, even though the auto is pretty good.
If the question is being asked because those are the options at a local dealer - then the answer is shop around further afield to find the one YOU want rather than are prepared to settle for.

neither Alpine or Sony is known to make GPS.
Garmin is known to make GPS for years. So, if Garmin wins the bid to make GPS for Honda, I will have no problem getting a Auto w/ Nav. from Honda. But this is not the case, so, I would rather get a i3 instead.

1. TSX' nav is one of the best.
2. Garmin i3 is too small to read and hard to navigate.

Auto for being stuck in traffic, plus the Nav is better than most you can buy aftermarket unless you drop more than 1500 bucks...and it looks damned nice all factory like.

Garmin is known for handheld units not for auto units. Alpine and Sony have supplied military with GPS system designs. Your reasons dont hold much water other than price, if I were to buy an aftermarket GPS, I would go with Alpine or Pioneer which both pwn Garmin windshield mount systems. Some TSX owners on here have done some sweet GPS mods mounting below the CD area, you cant get that factory or custom look without a windshield mount. IMO, if you go that route, just upgrade your phone and use its GPS system.

The fact that you thought Honda made the unit alone disqualifies your take.

While the navi in the TSX sounds well worth the dollar cost, it's not worth not having that sweet 6mt. What's the point of knowing where you're going if you don't want to drive there without rowing your own? Only jlukja actually likes having a 5at.

6mt > nav, although I would say that 6mt nav > (6mt non-nav + $2000).

um obviously you've never used the tsx nav, so you pretty much can't diss it. it's pretty evident because if you have used it, you'd know that acura's nav >>>>>any POS garmin you can get aftermarket

for starters, Garmin doesn't have 650 voice commands...and i'm betting it can't voice activate the climate control system or the audio system

I love my auto TSX its what I drive daily, my 6 speed non-TSX car sees action on the weekend with the absence of traffic jams...that and my wife doesnt drive manual, so at least there's still one car that she wont drive. If it was just me and just a TSX though, I would have opted for the 6 speed.

I love my navi! If your travelling to new places or live in an area where there are lots of places you don't know, then navi is great. I love it on our trips and it has come in handy in the city from time to time. There are many days I don't turn it on, but when I need it, it is worth it's weight in gold and there is a fun factor with it on the trips.

AT or 6MT really depends on what you want is well debated. My racing days are over so the AT gives me all that I want. If I had the 6MT I would have a lot more photo radar tickets and although traffic isn't that bad here my patience to use a stick in stop and go traffic is long gone.

Excited

I never tried the factory nav. So, you are absolutely correct. And, I am sure the $2000 dollars you paid for the factory nav is well spent. For $240 out the door for the i3 is not bad either, IMO.

6MT FTW!
It's a lot easier to add nav than change transmissions (trading in notwithstanding). And a nav isn't as integral to the driving experience.

if you've never used it, then why criticize it?

now, back to thread topic, i'd choose 6sp then go aftermarket.

6MT all the way. What's wrong with MTs and traffic? Clutches are lighter than ever, and you threre's a level of control you can't get with a slushbox. I grew up with slushboxes and dealt with tons of traffic in poor weather (snow and ice), and I would still pick an MT each time.

.... i don't get why you have to choose between those two... are those the only two cars available to you right now?? ... i wanted 6MT/NAVI and i had to wait to get my car but it was definitely worth it... if i couldn't have gotten 6MT/Navi i probalby wouldn't have gotten the TSX to be quite honest with you...

however, seeing as you are even debating getting a 6MT you'd probably be happier with an Auto, and you definitely wont' regret getting the navi... you may however regret not getting the Navi.... for you i'd say go Auto/Navi...

IMO you have to really love MT to not get sick of it in traffic

auto w/navi because like people have said before, in traffic driving a manual sucks.

plus i know its not the same, but the ss, it may seem that you can fictionally be driving a manual, but not really.

Good opinions so far

I just made this thread wanting to see which combo people would rather get over the other. To see what people would give up or favor if only given these two choices.

Im not making any choices, I was just cruious.

I wouldn't give up the navi and the flawless integration it has with the TSX. Sure you can go aftermarket, but it definitely doesn't have the feel and look one designed into a car from the concept stage.

Look at this way, you can have a Mp3 player that has all the bells, whistles, and features, but we all know iPod takes the cake in terms of design, intuitiveness, and execution.

Plus, for me, I drive in traffic and I'd rather save my knees for something athletic. Even if a clutch is light, its still wear and tear. The longer I can stay on the basketball court, the better, even if it means sacrificing a little fun in the car. I stay 5at and probably go to some sort of manumatic in the future.

I'm so surprised it's even so far. i was expecting all the Navi's out there to vote in heavily. I would love Navi if I were in an area where coverage would actually make sense. However, I don't think I'd love my TSX nearly as much as I do with an Auto. I test drove the 6MT and 5AT back to back and definitely fell in love with the MT.

I have had both (04 6MT and 06 Auto w/Nav)

It safe to say that the best choice is my current TSX: 6mt w/ Nav

...but then you have this ugly module sitting on top of your dash the whole time that looks out of place, and doesn't integrate other functions of the car with it (i.e., HF, mpg/cc/audio info, etc.). My guess is that for the vast majority of the people, the Honda/Acura nav meets all their needs and then some.

not everyone would do it either, but the garmin (or any aftermarket nav) won't allow you to utilize its screen for multimedia apps either (dvd, ipod vid, etc.)

just my

of course, with that said, i'd still take 6mt > nav, no matter what kind of traffic I was in (and I live in the NJ/NYC area).
