i vtec vs vtec

Hi all,
I was told by someone that vtec is different from i-vtec in that it initiates once you step on the gas hence the i = "intelligent". Is this true?

This came up because I mention that the TSX's vtec kicks in at 6K since I read it on a forum here. Thats when he corrected me, so I was wondering if anyone knows if this is true?

search for it and you'll find some good threads discussing. The tsx has two different vtec systems.

i-vtec -- which is hondas name for vtc(cam phasing) which gives decent torque gains all across the torque band.

vtec -- change in cam profile at a given rpm(cam changing)

Actually, the i refers to the driver of the car with the feature and not the car itself.
