how much slower is your TSX with the air conditioning ON?
mine is really, really slower. i drove my friend's '02 TL and the dip in power isn't really noticeable at all. also, the engine speed (tachometer) drops significantly faster when i'm shifting (clutch in, tach drops faster). this means my shifting technique has to be modified somewhat, with more speed shifts.
it's bothered me for awhile, but it's like 102 in the DC area today, so i figured i'd post. and yes, i realize that the car is going to be marginally slower in 102 degree weather than 62 degree weather, so hot air + AC = slower anyway. still, the power seems to disappear.
anyone else agree with me on this?
i wonder what a dyno graph would look like with the AC on....

well, i did a small trip of about 300 miles on the day it was 114 in sacramento, CA, with 3 people in the car. I was not at all bothered with the slowness, rather i felt it was fairly good. Also, it depends if you are compairing it to a TL or a BMW....

don't get me wrong, i'm more than happy with the car with the AC off. but with it on, it really does feel slow. anyone feel like timing their 0-60 with it on vs. off? i'm not obsessed with 0-60 times, but i would like to see what others get. i get about a 7.7 without AC, and about 9 seconds with it on.....

I definitely notice it when the AC is on. A little more sluggish off the line and down low in the rev range. Add in a couple of extra bodies and the effect is magnified.
But when the tradeoff is suffering in sweltering heat, I just go with it. You don't need AC much in the Puget Sound, but when you do it's very nice to have. I hope to never own a car without it again.

It's definitely slower when A/C is on, especially noticeable when it's below 3500rpm or if you're at WOT......
Mine is an AT so the difference might be magnified a little bit more.
Also, like someone pointed out in another thread, if you have the A/C on, chances are it's pretty hot outside which means the engine is running less than optimal. I have found that my TSX consistently feels stronger when it's around 65-75F outside...

If you haven't done so already, upgrade your intake system. I only upgraded the air fliter to a K&N filter and noticed no drop off on idle and less impact on take-off. I do feel a slight impact on the power curve but NOT worth turning off the AC for the difference.

not sure if its true or not, but there was a thread on here before that mentioned the fact that when the TSX is at WOT it automatically disengages the A/C system...so having the A/C on should not affect full throttle accelerations.

I swapped my intake from SRI to CAI a couple weeks ago, at a time that happened to coincide with a temperature change from low-mid 90s and incredibly humid to high 70s and comfortable, not requiring A/C. Gosh did this make a difference. Obviously, 70s + CAI - AC is alot better than 90s + SRI + AC, but it surprised me how much of a difference it seemed to make. For a couple days there I felt like I was driving around in a TL.

turn it off whenever i can
ac seems to subtract about 20 horses, and we are about 40 short to begin with
this car will get difficult with age when the power falls off turning the ac on gives you a good idea of what were in for

I'm not sure what WOT is but when you get going from stop you still need to floor it more than you would if the AC wasn't on.

In that car, turning off the A/C equal to the turbo boost button in Knight Rider. The TSX has no such problem for me.

I do notice the difference, but its not enough to complain about IMHO. If the A/C is on and I need full power I can just reach over and hit the A/C button to turn it off temporarily. I've never needed to though. Making mountains out of molehills?

Not to get too off topic here, but the DBW lag is absoultely awful on the Impala, at least I'm assuming it's DBW related. It's at least a 1.5-2 second delay from when you stomp on it until anything happens!

I noticed taht the difference wasn't as dramatic when I had the '06 loaners.... maybe the larger intake/throttle body has something to do with it??
