How Jealous could you be???

I was washing my car in my apartment parking lot yesterday, and there came one of my old friends, whom i hadnt seen in about a year. He drives in with his two week old 2007 Camry, and is all buffed up abt it.
He then comes up and looks at my 06 TSX and starts comparing, oh you got bluetooth, me too, oh you got 6-CD, me too, wat he did not say, is, oh you got Navi........
I took a peak at his car. Until now, i had a positive feeling about camrys' but not anymore. The interior is so hollow, and nothing feels solid. Eveything is so like hanging, and the finishing sucks.....
I dont knw y would you even compare the features when there is not comparison between the two....i think people get carried away by the small price diff of about 4-5K......

But I agree with the thread starter about the Camry's interior. IMO is not very well put together. Felt low rent to me. Although I thought it was because I was in a pre-producion one at Detroit.

^ I sometimes get this as well, but you know what I just take it as a compliment because they are using my car as the basis for their comparison. Just for s*(!'s and gigles, asking him, "how many thousands of Camrys do you see on the road."

actually guys i considered the 07 Camry XLE w/o Navi 4cyl. I test drove one and i felt it was not a bad car. It definitly was not a "fun" car to drive but it was a soild car. I felt the interior wasn't the best. I felt the 07 Camry is more "window dressing" than anything. They wanted $26,000 for it and would not budge on the sticker really. Last one in stock. So then i came to terms, do i want a car that i'll like but not love or shall i go for the gold and buy the car that i honestly really want and love.

plus i'm so glad i got what i really wanted, now i see 07 Camrys EVERYWHERE, its like a frenzy of robots. haha

Hey the 07 Camry doesn't come with HID standard! Or leather or all the other options. can't compare a Camry to a TSX, two different monsters.

Great comment considering the Camry is the reason that Toyota will be the largest car maker in the world shortly! 400,000 a year if I remember correctly!!!

$4000 buys a lot of leather. Especially for people who don't spend an awful lot of time in their cars, that money could be better spent making your apartment nicer, for instance. Or buying the women the nicer car wouldn't have gotten you anyway.

I sat in a Camry LE V6 model at the show room and I was disappointed with the quality of the material. The overall interior design is very pleasant but the material choice sucks. Everything is a little rough around the edges, the door handles, the swithces..... A piece of cheap black (ABS probably) plastic fell right into my hand when I opened the door from the inside. The grey leather was horrible and low grade. You could actually see a colour difference between the vinyl and the leather. I am sure the quality will improve as the plant builds more cars but this is not a good start.

If I were to buy a Camry, it would have to be either a SE or the Hybrid model.

no offense, but i dont think thats really fair and kind of hypocritical statement I mean I hear a bunch of people compare the TSX to the IS or 3 series or whatever, and when the owners of those cars dont think there is a comparison everyone gets all up in arms.

but when someone with a camry compares his car to a tsx you have a problem with that? I dont see why that is so offensive or why you would be pissed.

I mean I might be able to understand if he said your car was a piece of shit or something... but it sounded like he was just reaffirming that you both have nice similarly equipped cars.

and if other TSX owners really agree with you and think the Camry and TSX arent comparable then those same people shouldnt complain when TL,BMW,MB ect ect.. owners think their cars are better then the TSX.

just my

this post reminds me the time i met up with an old friend of mine about 2 years who bought the last gen camry. he told me he got it for $25000 (LE V6) and that the reason he bought was for it's sporty ride and handling

and then he began comparing his car favorably to mine. i didn't even bother to debate this

What if your TSX didn't have a navi? Then would your friend's Camry be comparable? I think so.....the TSX is a great car but there's a reason why the Camry is selling like crazy. I like the exterior on the Camry; the front end looks aggressive and back is ok too. The TSX is a 3 years old model and the camry a brand new one so I expect the Camry to be better in ways.

I directly compared the 07 Camry to my TSX before I bought, so I don't think it's wrong to compare the two. They're about the same price (for a loaded Camry) and it has some features that I really really wish the TSX had (namely the smart key and push button start).

But as the OP pointed out, the interior just isn't near as good. And the test drive is what killed the Camry for me, it felt FAR bigger than my friend's previous model Camry's that I had driven. The TSX just drove so much better. And I think the TSX looks better too.

yea my friend recently purchased a 07 display camry for 26k, its a v6, had a spoiler, body kit, and that was it (no leather seating, hids). IMO, its nice.. but i'd still choose a tsx over that car.

If you're friend was just trying to brag or gloat that's one thing, but everyone likes to be proud of what they drive. Whether it's a Camry or a TSX as long as you are the one that's happy then nothing else matters, but to me a Camry seems pale in comparison to a TSX . He was probably just comparing his car to yours because we all like to think we've gotten the best car for what we could reasonably afford. Some of my friends dont have near as nice a car as I do but even when they compare my TSX with their car I entertain them because I know they are proud of what they have, as I am. You shouldn't be upset, he was probably only comparing the features of his car and yours to reassure himself of his purchase. You know you have a great car, so why worry!?

He's had the car for two weeks, so of course he's excited. Give him a month or two. Once he gets used to his car, he can then make more valid comparisons.

You shouldn't care about what your friend says. You know your car...and you love your car.

It's an 07 as well, so it's got some new stuff. When the TSX's 07 comes in, we can go back to this discussion and compare the two 07's.

the new camry is nice, and it's a different type of car. more of a sedan. but honestly, our TSX isn't that amazing that it's completely out of the league of the camry. it's a fair comparison IMO.

Shaun put it nicely. I'd be a little more harsh and say that I agree with the others, that it's sounding like you're almost as insecure as your friend; consider that other people have different priorities and can also buy things that are nice. I'm not picking, I have to remind myself this. I like to brag as much as the next guy. But even if the TSX is nicer, you need to resist the urge to bash your friend over the head with it. (Not that you are, but I can sense the temptation! Or maybe it's just me that would be tempted. )

The Camry is a nice car, even if it isn't a TSX. For someone who doesn't really need the sportiness, it makes more sense to drive a more "family sedan" like the Camry. It has decent pickup (at least the older model I've driven), nice soft ride, and is sloppy-soft around corners. Not my style, but probably a better choice for most people. Given that, the Camry is a good choice.

Meanwhile, you might just need to find something else to talk about. I swear, after religion and politics, I think cars should be the next thing people shouldn't talk about, at least if they can't do it without getting ticked off. (Again, myself included! Although I find it interesting to discuss these dangerous topics, you just can't do it with everyone.)

IMHO $4K-$5K is not a small price difference.
I agree. It kind of puts you in another price category.

They're about the same price (for a loaded Camry) ...
In that case, compare away! If you don't need a real sporty ride, the Camry is still a sensible choice. Having driven the previous model, I was well aware of the old-person-compatible ride, and I wanted none of it. And it does seem like the Camry is a bit overpriced for what you get (even on the non-loaded models).

...and if other TSX owners really agree with you and think the Camry and TSX arent comparable then those same people shouldnt complain when TL,BMW,MB ect ect.. owners think their cars are better then the TSX.
Yeah, I don't complain. I figure I would have had to cough up more than $5k to be happy with some other brands such as BMW. And as stated before, now you're in another price category. Trade-offs.... I compared the TSX against cars in both lower and higher brackets. (I was tempted to buy something cheaper and live with the extra money I'd save, or go the other way, and get a more powerful car, but have a harder time dealing with less money, etc.) The TSX is such a middle-of-the-road decision for me, I guess. That makes it sound so mundane, but the TSX is such a fun car, it's not fair to look at it that way! I wouldn't have gotten it if it didn't seem like a good car.

And if I only wanted a car to go from point A to point B, maybe I'd have a Camry.

I just picked up my 2005 TSX under a week ago and I had directly compared the '07 Camry SE to the '05 TSX. The Camry SE is nice, but the interior felt extremely cheap. Overall, the TSX is a much more solid, sporty car. I agree with the previous comment on the Camry being pretty much window dressing. It is nice, but it is still a Camry. However, it was nice enough to actually get my ass to the dealership to take a look. Before the '07, I would never have considered it.

The car has 17k on it, got it in the low 20's. It is in beautiful condition inside and out, no scratches, everything is MINT. It couldn't have worked out better for me. I actually saw a few brand new 2005's on the lot and they were still asking full price for them. People can't believe my car isn't brand new.

Shouldn't get angry at all. Why even pay attention to a person that compares their cars to yours. If he's that high spirited about his Camry, you should know before hand that it's nowhere close to even being as good as the TSX. Just rub it off your shoulders and move on. Lose the short tood, dude.

The Camry is a louder, slower, less comfortable, poorer handling, less luxurious version of the Lexus 350 (which is also a car for women with blue hair . . . and maybe a few old guys like me). Toyota intentionally keeps the Camry a several notches lower than it Lexus counterpart, and it's apparent when you drive them. Maybe only the RL competes with the ES350 for sheer luxury, but the entire Acura line is more fun to drive than the ES, and certainly more fun than the Camry.
