How to handle HID bulbs?
I'm planning on doing the headlight assembly mod, but I'm nervous about messing around with the HID bulb. If I decide to do it what do I need to know about handling the bulb. I assume you can't touch the bulb with bare hands, but outside that I'm lost. I searched all the threads on this subject and there aren't really any how-tos. I know how to pull apart the assembly and paint it because I did it with my civic, but I didn't have $100 bulbs on that car. Any advice? Thanks for the help.

people treat the bulbs like some kind of priceless object. ive worked with hid systems lots of times. dont worry if you touch it or the ceramic coating breaks. if you touch it, just get a cotton what ever and wipe it clean, make sure there isnt any residue. just dont break the glass. just keep it in a safe place while your working on the assembly

from my dealings w/lightbulbs in the past: handle the bulbs gently with a cloth. if you get the bulb dirty or have fingerprints on them, just soak a piece of cloth with isopropyl alcohol (70% or regular antiseptic alcohol) and wipe it clean.

HID bulbs are less fragile than regular halogen bulbs. When installing an aftermarket kit on my Accord back in the day, I had received a bulb broken at the base, so I just glued it back solid with ceramic epoxy (luckily, the circuits were intact), washed off my fingerprints with some Q-Tips soaked with rubbing alcohol, and voila, they worked as well as the intact bulb.
Still, though, you might want to be careful and not toss them around, but already, the fact that it doesn't have a tiny tungsten carbide wire helps it be a little more resistant to shock.
