How big is the TSX?

All right, I'm new to the scene and I want to know how big is this car? I've never seen one with my 2 eyes before. Specs show this car being 8-10 inches longer than a Sentra (which is what I currently have). It looks a hell of a lot bigger in pictures. I'm single, hardly anybody in the back seat, is this car too big/too much? How big would you compare it to other similar body styles (Mazda 6, BMW 3, Honda Accord Coupe/Sedan, NIssan Altima, etc.) I've checked out the RSX, but the type-S is manual transmission only. Call me lazy but I want an automatic, plus the RSX interior is butt ugly. Just doing some pre-game homework before I actually visit a dealer. I really want a TSX but I'm afraid once I finally see and drive one, it will be too big for my tastes. Why does the RSX look like crap on the inside!

Bigger than a 3 series, smaller than an Accord, and about the same size as a Mazda 6.

It's just right if you ask me.

Lack of fussy lines make this car look bigger in photos than it really is. Interior is comfortable, I wouldn't expect real people to ride in the back seat for an extended period of time, and I can handle this car easily in city traffic. It replaced a Jetta GLX for me, and the Jetta was definitely shorter, but not so much that it makes a difference except in extreme city parallel parking scenarios. When you go to test drive the TSX, drive the TL at the same time - that will give you a sense of perxpective. Tradeoff is that the driver's seat is great, very adjustable to get your optimum setting.

TSX is 183 inches in length, BMW 3-Series is 176, Accord is 189, Mazda 6 is 186, Maybach is 242 and the MiniCooper is 143

TSX is 69.4 inches in width, BMW 3-Series is 68.5, Accord is 71.5, Mazda 6 is 70.1, Maybach is 78 and the MiniCooper is 66.5

TSX has 41.3 inches in front legroom, BMW has 41.4, Accord is 42.6, Mazda 6 is 42.3, Maybach is 42.4 and the cooper isn't listed, probably because they had to amputate the guys legs to get him out.

TSX is 57.3 inches high, BMW is 55.7, Accord is 57.1, Mazda is 56.7, Maybach is 62 and the Minicooper is 56.2

TSX has 62.2 Front Shoulder clearance, BMW has 54.4, Accord is 56.9, Mazda is 56.1, Maybach is 55.4 and Minicooper is 50.9

I sat down in a bunch of cars before I bought it, here's my experience:
- Just slightly smaller in the front than the old-gen Accord, but probably a bit more space in the back
- About the same size as the 3-series, a bit more room on paper, especially in the back
- Around the same size as the Mazda 6
- A little bit smaller than the current Accord

Honestly, when I sit down in other cars like the Accord or the TL, I don't find them that much bigger. Maybe just slightly wider, but not a huge difference.

To me, the car is the prefect size, it feels "compact" and handles like a compact but really it's a mid-size (in Canada anyway).

I had a 2001 Audi S4 before the TSX. The TSX is about 6 inches longer, a bit bigger inside, but it "feels" smaller because it weighs significantly less.

While it's mainly about fuel milage, have a look at the following link:

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/FEG2005.pdf

It lists the interior and cargo/trunk volume of all 05 sedans. While on paper the volume might be the same the layout will influence the size "feel" of different cars. Until I saw this I didn't realize the interior volume of the 3 series is the same as TSX.

For the longest time I didn't consider the 3 series cause I thought it was too small - with the new E90 growing in every dimension, including a whopping 3" in width, it would definitely be in the running for consideration.

I think it's the perfect size. Great on the road for 90mph commute.

It's only about 3-4 inches shorter than a TL but it is much taller, so the proportions of the TSX make it look like a smaller, shorter car.

Many great replies, thanks! I guess its just the photos that make this car look big. There's several Accords and 3 series in the company parking lot. I look at them everyday as I walk by and they are awesome little cars. I didn't think the TSX was around the size of BMW 3 though, surprise. I love compact/midsize cars and I stay away from coupes and roadsters for insurance reasons = too much wasted $$. Shit, I can't wait to actually see and drive one now! In a month or two, I should have enough for a very generous down payment, can't wait.

When you do, make sure you take a test drive that runs this car through its true strenght, which is its impeccible handling - take it on some twisties - running it out on the freeway will demonstrate its good manners, but where this car really excells (imho) is in midspeed tight turns where the car's frontwheel drive tendencies for understeer are significantly banked, and the car tracks like a cat.
