I don't know but the reason I went with the AT on my '06 was that in my commute I'm often in such traffic . Would have preferred MT.

Are you riding your clutch a lot? If so, it might be bad. Otherwise, it's just normal wear and tear. OEM clutches have been known to last a fairly long time so a little more stop and go will only shorten the life span a rather mild amount, I imagine.

If you're seriously concerned, perhaps you might rethink how you're driving so that you're not engaging and disengaging the clutch as often. I've done the hours and hours of bumper to bumper in LA traffic and I think that if you hang back a bit from the car in front of you, stay in a lower gear and use the throttle to creep, you should be able to save at least a little wear on your clutch.

that is one long commute (guessing 1.5h each way?).
I have commuted for about 12 years (32mi each way/~1.0h each way)...with this commute on my 90 madza I put 120k mi and only one clutch change before I sold it. with my 01 accord cpe I put on 90k mi with no clutch replacement. the TSX is only at 10k so I can't give you any info on that.
And to make matters worse-during this time I lived in very hilly SF and during the dot com boom, bumper to bumper traffic was commonplace in the city and highway, so I think my mileage was pretty good.

So I wouldn't worry...clutches should last at least 75k, average is prob 90k mi.

You need to change your commute route. I commuted to/from LA every day for 4 years during the heavy rush hour peak. There are freeways you should avoid, and certain side streets you should take.

With the amount of time you spend commuting, I can probably go back and forth twice, and Cerritos is closer to LA than I am

Anyway, it depends on how you drive. I let the car in front of me increase the gap a little, and I just give it enough gas to let me coast. Either the car in front will either move by the time I get to him/her, or I can just slow my car a bit to give him/her more time. Sometimes if it's moving fast enough, I'll leave it in 1st gear sometimes and let the car jerk me forward a little lol

If the TSX is like my old Teg, it should be fine. 140k miles, and the clutch was still smooth and never slipped. It pretty much stayed the same from about 30k onward....

me too, i get sooo frustrated that i usually leave a big gap between me and the car in front just so I don't have to always brake to slow down and to keep on shifting. the only downside to this is that i do get people coming into my lane....but that doesn't bother me....i just keep backing off.

The answer depends how much you slip the clutch.

I'd also be concerned about your other shifting habits, i.e. whether you rev match on downshifts, etc.

Yea Ive been starting to do that. When I had my car serviced I had an automatic TL as opposed to my 6MT TL and I found it more annoying that driving manual to be honest. I kept a little gap to creep, and at least when theres a light you dont even have to hold the brakes (I wouldnt recommend it even on a flat surface just in case someone rear ends you) and I usually just pull the e-brake up. I dunno about the e-brake on the TSX's but the TL's is weak and so is my friends on his 6MT RSX.

exactly!! i really don't get why people weave in & out and tail in traffic.....like getting to their destination 5 minutes faster is any better.

damn, they really need to improve the transportation options out there. if i were you, i'd at least try to carpool!

but anyways, if you can drive an MT well, i don't think it'll be any worse than normal wear and tear, but if you're riding your clutch more, it will be worse. same as any situation IMO.

same crap happens in nyc and nj. don't the people realize that they are actually slowing everyone down? not to mention the inevitable accident that is caused which really screws sh*t up.

I hate to be an ass, but I do this too. It's just the fact of sitting there that irritates me, I like to be moving. That and also it's usually a cellphone talker, a makeup cortortionist, or a geezer in a buick that leaves like 10 car lengths space cushion that slows down traffic and that pisses me off.

Now a days, if I can, I like to use my motorcycle. Now i just gotta becareful of people that dive into lanes without looking.
