How to Accelerate?

I just got my TSX last tuesday, and now I finlally got past the recommended 600 mile break in. This is also my first Manual Car so It took me a while to figure out how to drive it. Now that I'm fairly good, I really want to test this baby out.

1) at what point should I shift in each gear to get maximum acceleration?

2) when I want to drive hard off the line, do I shift into second asap and put the pedal to the floor?

I'am asking cause I really want to test this baby out, but I don't want to jack up my car. Any help would be appreciated.

Peace

Sup! Wow, tuesday and you're already up to 600 miles. After I crossed 600 miles I just took the RPMs up to about 5-6. Nothing too hard. You're not really done with the break-in period. Now after 600 miles you should be just reving it a little higher and could go faster than 60 MPH.

I would suggest you rev it up a little at a time everytime you drive the car. (i.e. rev it up to 5, the next time you drive 6. etc.) let your car get used to it a little. I would suggest you break 1000 miles before you start pushing it to the redline, but I know that feeling of wanting to push you car..... I was there. It was torture to not push it.

Good luck!

TO get maximum acceleration, turn off your VSA and shift as high as you can (that means just past read line...maybe 7200). I wouldnt do this alot untill your car is more broken in though. A couple of times right now wont hurt though.

Ya, shift 200rpm past red line in each gear like fdl recommended.

To get a good launch, rev the motor to about 3K and let the clutch out faster than you normally would. The goal is to engage the cluch as quickly as you can but still be smooth and allow some slippage so that the motor doesn't get bogged down. Press the gas as hard as you can once the car gets going and the clutch is almost fully engaged. It takes practice. And don't shift into second until you've seen 7200 on the tach.

Tight, can't wait to try it. I guess I should give my engine a little more time to break in.

About driving under 60mph, haha I've been tring to keep it under 70mph since i got it, I didn't know we were spose to keep it under 60mph.

So how much longer do you think I should wait to fully rev this baby? 1000miles?

let me know when you guys started reving it.

Thanks for all the help, I getting to like manual transmission after a week of hell trying to get used to it. Automatic people have it so easy

What I did was after 600 miles i started slowly upping the revs. So I would start revving to 5k for a couple hundred miles, ethen 6k, etc. By 1000 miles you can probably start hitting the redline, but maybe not every time you drive

As for keeping it under 70, I had my TSX over 100 miles an hour with less that 200 miles. I dont see speed being a problem at all, as long as you keep your rpms down, and dont brake very hard (can warp your rotors).

I have tried all sorts of things with the TSX for the best launch (practicing for the track next year), and I have found the best way (by far) is also the most brutal way.

-Launch at 3500rpm, slam the gas, but let the clutch slip a little. (make sure rpms don't drop below 3500.

-Rev right up to 7400rpm (cutoff), but don't hit the cutoff

-When you're ready to shift, hold the gas to the floor, give a quick tap on the clutch, shift as fast as you can, and drop the clutch back as fats as you can. The faster you do it, the better.

-Same for second to third, and third to fourth, and so on until you get scared of a meet-up with cops.

That should yield you a mid-15's.
