Hondata can reflash RBB-A61, the newest 2006 TSX ECUs.


It turns out that, at production years end for the 2006 TSXs, Honda was installing a newer generation of ECU’s.


I sent the ECU from my 2006 Acura TSX 5AT to Hondata on 15 Dec 2006.

I love my new TSX; but I was disappointed in the power drop between 5000 and 6000 RPM.

I had done a great deal of research, and the literature and user reports all pointed to Hondata’s reflash of the ECU as a great investment.


There was one slight glitch.

After removing and sending the ECU, immobilizer, and a key expedited by a dealer directly to Hondata, I noticed that, among all the myriad of numbers I had copied off the ECU, was the number “37820-RBB-A61”. My memory flashed on the statement from Hondata’s website that said:
“Who can use this upgrade? Any 06 TSX K24A2 TSX with the ECU part numbers (covers all current 06 ECU part numbers) :
RBB-A04 - 06 TSX
RBB-A59 - 06 TSX Auto”

Panic City!!! I e-mailed Hondata and asked if this number ECU would present a problem. Their response was “ It may be some time before we can reflash this ECU.” More panic!!!!

I called Hondata the next morning. I was initially disappointed to hear that it could be “days or weeks” before my ECU would be done (and thus days or weeks that I’d be without my wonderful new car). I was advised to call back in 2 hours, however, to talk to Doug MacMillan. I called back; and Mr. MacMillan reassured me with his wonderful New Zealander accent that, although they had been temporarily surprised by this new generation of ECU, they had been successful in working out the program, and that they would have it done and off to me in overnight express that evening.

The ECU arrived 21 Dec. I reinstalled it and found the performance just as advertised.

Now any of you 06 ( and possibly new 07) TSX owners with ECUs having this new generation model number can know that Hondata is ready to serve you.

I highly recommend these folks. Their customer service is efficient and pleasant, and the results of the reflash are super.

For those who are curious, there is no change in 0-60 ET in full auto in fact there may be a 0.1 or 0.2 sec reduction. With auto-stick however, shifting from 1st to 2nd at 7200 RPM there is a 0.1-0.2 sec reduction. This is as measured with a simple stop watch by the driver. I did 10 runs before and 10 runs after reflash. Before, average 8.3 sec in auto, 7.94 auto-stick. After average 8.5 sec auto, 7.79 auto-stick. So, if your hoping for a change in raw acceleration off the line, that’s not what this mod will provide.

The main difference is the smoothed torque and HP curve. This, combined with the change in the Vtec point to 5000RPM, makes the power much more usable at all RPMs. Thus, there are no disappointments when you stomp on it in AT to maneuver in traffic. The fun of driving in the back country in Auto-stick is greatly enhanced. The car feels and sounds like a smoothly running high RPM vehicle. It’s a joy to be going 70 in 5th at 2400rpm as one approaches a 30 mph curve, downshift to 3rd , jump to 6000RPM, let the engine slow you to 60, and accelerate back out of the curve from 5000rpm with full power. Also, the 40 mph-80mph pass-a-car take off is notably improved. Basically, the car is just a lot more fun to drive and performs like it should have in the first place.
