Honda / Acura Odometer Proposed Class Action Settlement
Hello all,
I just received a snail mail from Honda (well, at least it was their Torrance CA return address on the envelope) about a proposed class action lawsuit settlement. Here are the initial details:
"If you purchased or leased a Honda or Acura model year 2002 through 2006 automobile or model year 2007 Honda Fit between April 13, 2002 and November 7, 2006, you are a member of a proposed settlement..."
Goes on to say that Honda has been putting in Odometers which are off by 2% to 4%, and that one can get reimbursed if you got nailed by excess mileage on a lease. They are also extending the *mileage* part of their warranty by 5% (but not the time limit part of the warranty, e.g., it's still 3 years/7 years). There's also a section in the letter which says that if you paid for repairs which would have been under warranty (had they put in accurate odometers), there's a way to get reimbursed.
I have not yet gone to the web site they reference in the letter, but if you're interested, here it is:
www.odosettlementinfo.com
or
www.HondaOdometerClassAction.com
or
you can call: 888-888-3082
Oh, and the lawyers are asking for $9.8 million for themselves, $10,000 for the original plaintiff, and $1000 for a subsequent plaintiff. And naturally, Honda denies the plaintiff's claim, but is doing this to avoid the expense of a trial, etc.

Let me help you!
I found out about this long ago because it was posted here long ago ;-)
As for the lawsuit...if it's proven that Honda did mess up, I guess our fuel economy is actually inflated (since the car says you went 2-4% longer on a single tank of gas), and our resale price will be lower (mileage will read 2-4% higher than the actual value)...
And the percents do add up over time. Just like that time when some bankers decided to snip off half of a penny from every transaction so that the computer didn't report any change (due to rounding). Every two transactions made a penny, and thousands of bank customers made the bankers quite a bit of money. Too bad they didn't take into account taking half a penny twice from an account, so that eventually the numbers started mis-matching...
