HID Lens cracked during highway driving....

Well if it really did, would it be replaced under warranty? If so, why wouldn't the fog lens cover also be ...uh... covered under warranty?

Not if it was cracked by an impact, like a rock etc. No different than a rock hitting the windshield....you wouldn't assume that that would be covered under warr. would you?

If You Have A 04 Or 05 Tsx With Accessory Fog Lights They Are Not Covered Under The Same Warranty

And Acura Will Not Cover And Damages Due To Road Debris

Acura Wouldnt Repaint Your Hood If A Rock Hit It Why Would They Replace A Broken Light

I would get Rockblocker as some cheap insurance if nothing else. Idoubt Acura will replace from road debris as already mentioned.

I doubt if Acura will cover it, but it never hurts to ask. Ford covered my Mustang headlight lens that got cracked by a rock. I was lucky, a car was rolling across the median right at me after spinning out of control and flipping. It dug into the median and kicked a buttload of rocks at my car. One more bounce and it was on top of me. I brought it in for repair (car was only about a week old) expecting to pay for it, and the service manager was cool and put it in as a factory defect. No charge.

Doesn't hurt to ask...

I see....

But if both of my fog lenses are cracked, why can't I find even a visible nick on my headlight lenses? Both were installed by Acura for the same reasons. I don't see why the fogs should be this fragile.

Rock chips on the front bumper and hood are expected; if they were severely dented then that would qualify as an "accident".

Simple....because the foglight lenses are glass, the headlight lenses are plastic. Because of the small size of the housing and high heat generated by the foglight bulb they use glass to keep the lens from melting. In general, plastic lenses have more impact resistance, but less heat resistance.

So it's faulty design...or choice. I imagine other cars use plastic?

Well, thats why I think people with HIDs should get the aforementioned Rockblocker or Stoneguard for the headlights. It's worth the money.

That and also the fact that the polycarbonate plastics not necessarily chip or mark, but pit. I am sure if your fogs are cracked the headlights have pits in them. Just like the windshield. Only a matter of time.
