I'd laugh, but I did the exact same thing several years ago. It sucks. Not an easily learned lesson. All of my cars since my first one have had keyless entry simply because without it, I'd lock the keys in it all the time. In high school my mom had to bring my spare to me once a week. And that was a 30 minute drive each way (we lived in the sticks.)

Hehe, I feel your pain. I used to do the exact same thing, complete with the trips from the parents to drop off keys for my dumb ass at school. I now refuse to even borrow a vehicle without keyless entry for fear of locking the keys in it. I just have a nasty habit of leaving them in the ignition while I'm gathering up my crap (work ID, jacket, etc.)

I have no idea how you guys can lock yourself out of the car. Are you guys that irresponsible or something? Every time I exit the car, I close the door, then press the lock button. That's the correct way of locking the doors. I've only been driving for 2 years and I have not locked myself out even once.

I don't think that it is irresponsible, it is a common mistake, other wise they wouldn't make slim jims now would they.

If you leave the keys in the ignitions, almost all cars have a ding or audiable reminder and they wont lock when you try to lock them from the inside. Even my mom's 92 camry has that. Its nearly impossible to lock the car with the keys in the ignition with the car off.

I have my keys with me and lock the car from the inside before I close the door. Saves the batteries and wear and tear on my fob.
plus wasnt there something about how people could catch the code from your fob when you use it and then use the code later to open your car? dunno if its true or not.

My first car was an 82 Accord. No power anything, and the ignition switch was touchy at best. It didn't ding when the keys were in it and the door was open. There was a mechanism (that I'm pretty sure Honda still uses) that won't allow the driver's door to lock while open, but all you had to do to get around it was pull the handle, and then lock the door. An easy one handed operation. Now I use the fob every time. On my last car the key hole was frozen up because I never used the key in the 6 1/2 years I owned it. Found that out at the Acura dealership, but we'd already signed the paperwork

Wow, I haven't locked my keys in my car before and I have been driving for 10 years. Seriously though its a common mistake and shit happens. It's not being irresponsible its called life, we all can't be perfect.

Hope you got your keys, sorry to hear you pain.

You're 21 and haven't been driving long enough to call everyone else irresponsible.

I've done it. The last time, I was coming back from NY and my car was parked in a garage. Keys were in my jacket pocket. I popped the trunk from the remote as I approached, took my jacket off and put my laptop in the trunk and closed it... realizing 1/2 second before it latched that my keys were in my jacket pocket (which was now in the trunk).

Mistakes happen. AAA was in the car in less than 60 seconds (after a 40 minute wait for them to get there, of course).

Yeah, this happens to the best of them.

I locked myself out my Celica (my first car) with the engine running. I was on break from work and had to get back. So my wife rushes over my spare key, only to get a speeding ticket on the way.

Glad you got back into your car!

Actually, the car won't let you lock the doors if there's a key in the ignition.

You guys should get one of those "hideakeys" from walmart. its just a little box where you put the key in and it has a magnet on it that you can hide under the car somewhere. That thing has saved my ass so many times!

Wish they made all the cars like the RL.
If you left your keys in the trunk and close it, it will pop back up
