Help - I can't think of 3 good reasons to pickup my 2005 instead of getting a 2006!
I'm very bummed out right now.... I bought a 2005 CG/Ebony 6MT/NAV TSX on Saturday 7/16.... I wanted Arctic Blue Pearl but there was no way I'd get it... they couldn't find one anywhere.... they offered me every other color and I settled on CG.... details of my deal --
Car (inc. delivery and adv. fees):
=======================
$27813
Options (prices include installation):
=========================
A-Spec - $800
Comptech RSB - $169
Underbody - $1120
Foglights - $424
Trunk Tray - $99
Wheel locks - $39
All season mats - $105
**** Grand Total - $30,819 ****
They gave me $7500 ($15 under bluebook) for my 2001 1.8T Jetta with 84K on the trade.
+ 6/100 Extended Warranty - $1275
+ UV/Paint/Leather Protection (inside and out) - $250
+ Doc fees - $139
+ Tax/Title/Reg/MA Inspection/etc....
They found the car for me on Tuesday 7/19. They setup a trade and got the car from the other dealership on Wednesday 7/27.... They told me they had some other deliveries to do and wanted a specific service guy to work on my car so they said I should have it by this Wednesday..........
Monday morning, 2006 specs come out!!! Grrrrr! (Mind you the dealership has been telling me all along that they were a ways out and that they won't get the cars till December)..... I call to check on my car... and express my displeasure with the announcement of the 2006 specs.... the guy says my car looks great, the ASpec was going on yesterday afternoon they were just waiting for "that damn swaybar"..... and the guy that ordered it wasn't in on Saturday or yesterday so they don't know the status.... they were getting it from Comptech in CA I believe, I live in MA..... in 2 wks they still hadn't gotten it?? WTF... did the dipsh!t do ground shipping??? He said he hoped it'd be in today and they'd have the car done on Wednesday.... I told him he needs to get it done... that if I already had the car I wouldn't be so burned about the '06 specs as I could say "well at least I have my car now and I'm enjoying it!", but I don't even have it yet!
My Jetta could easily last till the end of the year if I got the rear brakes done.. the pads are totally shot... vibration in the wheel.. yum.....
So here's my dilema... I can not think of 3 good reasons to take the 2005 over the 2006.... so far I've only put down the $500 downpayment... I haven't signed anything, I'm financing thru my own bank and haven't even filled out the paperwork yet.....
The only reasons I can think of:
1. Price (I'll probably save $1500 - 2000 vs getting a 2006 when they first come out as there won't be much dealing it down below MSRP)... and frankly, what's $1500 when I'm already spending $32K....
2. Get the car this week(end) vs in October (best case scenario... could be later)...
Should I walk on this car and just order up a 2006 at some other dealership? I'd love to get the upgraded NAV, the aux jack, the power increase and frankly, I kinda like the look of the new front end..... oh and I'd love to get Royal Blue Pearl....

Don't walk - run from this deal. The basic car price is OK but everything afterwards is not so good.
Spend $50 on a set of pads and have an auto inclined person help you put them on yourself on the Jetta. I'm sure that by Dec you'll be able to get an 06 for just the 05-06 MSRP increase over this price.
With the 06 you won't need fogs so that right there means you can get the car for the same as the 05. The revised body work on the 06 might mean that it might be good enough stock so you won't need the expensive A-spec parts.
The whole point of a TSX is reliability - the regular warranty is good enough - skip extended warranty.
Nav will be better, audio in, BT..... I could go on - just wait - otherwise you'll regret your purchase and not just financially.

Don't get cornered into making a 30K decision if its not for you. If you're not happy now, you'll regret it for as long as you own the car. Just work something out with the dealer...tell them to keep the deposit for the 2006 as a gesture of your intention to buy. I wouldn't walk away and screw them with all your custom work.
Worst thing that can happen is you lose 500 bucks but in the end you get the car that you really want.

The key word I took from your post was "settled" on the CG when your first choice was the Arctic Blue. That in itself would be your major mistake. Also, after discovering what we all found out about the 2006 yesterday, there is almost no good reason in your situation to continue with your 2005 purchase, especially with that lackadasical dealer. As biker mentioned, skip all the extended warranty and uv BS and get the nav.

I called 6 "local" dealerships just now and 4 of the 6 said they don't expect the '06s to arrive until November... 2 said October.... no one is taking orders yet... the earliest is 30-45 days from now.... A couple of them tried to play dumb about the 2006 specs being out till I started rattling them off and adding "and 3 of the dealers I just called siad they got the fax on the new car yesterday"....

My other option is to just get this car and drop the extended warranty (they offer a 5th yr, 12,000mi addon for Free -- so I'd have 5/62K).... plan on keeping it for only 3 yrs and getting a 2008 when they come out with the Full Model Change....

Why even consider the extended warranty if you plan to sell the car before you'd even get into that period? Also keep in mind you can always buy extended warranties later in you plan changes.

Not sure about Acura, but I know third parties would be available. I've heard a lot of bad things about Honda/Acura extended warranties, while I myself have had good experiences with an aftermarket one.
Again why spend $1275 on something you don't plan to ever use (because you'll sell/trade the car before you get out of the regular warranty)?

Which aftermarket plan do you use? Do you have to front the cash to the dealers and then file a claim, or does the plan pay the dealer?

Wow, it seems like you are quite confused... Can you think of 3 reasons that you cannot wait till November/Dec, when 2006 TSX get to the dealership?
I suggest you talk to your dealer, while the 2005 is still a brand new car. After you drove it out of the lot ...

he also said that without a doubt I'll be paying MSRP for the 06 if I were to order one of the first ones....
Reasons to not wait till Nov/Dec:
1. The hassle of dealing with all this new car stuff... I'm at the point where I just have to grab a check from the bank and go pick up the new one (which they are now saying will be ready tomorrow... they will have a new RSB overnighted if they have to... apparently the parts guy did fuck up and selected ground shipping.. moron!)
2. Save $2000 - $2500....
3. Scratch my new car itch now....
4. Don't have to bother replacing my rear brakes on my jetta or continue to drive around in a car that really needs shocks and struts...it's a bit of a rough ride right now...
If I can add the aux input to an 05 with NAV (my new car) I may just take it.. I thought the adapters everyone uses don't work on NAV cars....

I currently don't have any extended warranties, but the last one I had/used (called Mr. Mechanic or something like that) was on a 1993 Prelude. It was easy to use and had no up front costs at all. The dealer just called an 800 number and everything was be taken care of.

I think that you will be pleased with the way the car performs no matter what you do. Personally, I would have a hard time waiting 4 months when it sounds like you can be in a new car in a few hours. All the power increase can be had with mods, but the memory seats and the like inside you will have to live without if you get the '05. Ask yourself if those luxuries are worth almost $3000 (remember taxes) +$500 deposit + the $ to fix the VW to make it to Nov. IMHO economically it is not worth it to wait.

I am calling on this one. I got the first 2005 TSX to come into RI and still got $1000 off MSRP. don't believe what dealers say, they just want to make a sale now.

Well I think I may take the '05 as long as it's ready tomorrow... I found this thread for getting XM + NAV and AUX all working at once so I may just bite the bullet and get it....
https://acurazine.com/forums/audio-video-electronics-navigation-22/finally-i-have-xm-my-auxillary-input-my-05tsexw-navi-312281/
As everyone has pointed out for the $2000 I'm saving by getting the '05 I can do alot of modding... including a CAI and start making up ground on the increased torque and HP....
My phone doesn't even have bluetooth, so whatever....
The only other thing would be the upgraded NAV.... hopefully I'll just be able to get the 06 DVD and get the Zagat stuff and new Points of Interest in the 2005... that would be ideal....

No, when he takes a hit on the increased MSRP and taxes added I am sure it will equal close to $3000. Nav MSRP for 2005 is over 29K which is the least he will pay for the 2006. I think he is getting the 2005 w/Nav for just a little over $27K. If the price for 2006 goes up any it is a real possibility his OTD price will increase almost $3000. That is not including the deposit he will lose or the maintenance on the VW for the next 3 months. In the end, economics of a purchase doesn't always affect the purchaser's preference. It really depends on how much more he is willing to pay for basically the same car with a few non-essential gadgets.

If you are certain about your decision to get the 05 then the 06 should not even be a factor anymore. Your focus is to get the 05 and get it at the best price possible whether its delivered today, tmro or next week.

I don't know, for this kind of issue (swapping order between 2005 and 06), I would talk to the manager directly instead going through the sales person. While I agree with Moody that you have *only* $500 on the line right now, you sound like you cannot stand the wait of a couple extra months. Good luck and hope you enjoy your new car tomorrow.
