Talking Great MPG with 6MT and stop-and-go? It's possible!

Okay, I have to admit, I have been driving with a lead foot ever since I had my TSX about 6 months ago, my overall gas mileage has been between 21 to 23 mpg (if I'm lucky). I read the different threads on this forum about people getting crazy mileages (like 30+). At first I was skeptic, and later on I know they are in the minority (people who drive hightway miles only, no traffic, and VTEC virgins ). But last week, I modify my driving habits..accelerate briskly but never full throttle, and try to coast at one speed for as long as I can..upshift quicky, and avoid stratospheric revs...After one week of driving, about 60% stop and go traffic, I'm a believer...the TSX IS a good mileage car

The actual mileage is 27.24 mpg if I calculated myself..not the 28.4 as stated on the computer, but close. I would've gotten higher if I didn't drive hard over the weekend (old habits die hard)

Not bad for a lot of city (and stop and go hwy) driving!

Now for the gas prices to go down !!!!!

Wow...that's pretty impressive. I still haven't been able to get gas mileage that good out of my car, even though it is an auto. The best I've managed so far, by my calculations, is 23.8 mpg.

not bad! I am usually around 22-24, but managed 27.8 on a 80% highway trip.

Ok, I definitely see how to get good mileage out of this car... and I actually knew this before I even read this post... but the real question is: it is hard to force yourself to drive this car like that. The engine likes to rev and rev freely. Why drive it like a grandma when it clearly wants to be driven like you stole it. All exaggerations aside, it's just no fun to drive this car like you describe. IMO, it's borderline annoying... like taking away a toy from a baby and putting it somewhere within plain sight but out of reach. Just my $.02

Yup, you're right, it's no fun..but during my commute, there is no way to drive in a spirited way anyway when the other cars are only inches away from you. During the weekends, however, I can driver a bit faster. Point is that I did not believe the high mpg figures before, and now I do...and saving a couple bucks on fuel isn't bad now that the fuel prices are so high!

I do plan on tearing up the road w/ in car video in the near future...reving up is what this car is about!

Congrads on the nice figures. At some point, you'll probably realize that this style of "easier" driving will help you relax a lot more, and you won't reach home as much stressed. You'll enjoy life this much more.
