well its been exactly one year since i got my TSX today
and it was involved in its and my first accident ever
almost brand new 2005 Acura TSX with only fuckin 1900 miles on it
i was basically t-boned at low speeds at an intersection
damage isnt that bad, need both driver side dorrs replaced, a new side skirt and my a pillar is slightly messed up

i will have pics up shortly

at least nobody was hurt, it wasnt also anybodys fault since it was a stop sign intersection

oh well, shit happens

can someone please tell me the what i do next, i filed a police report already
do i send the car to a body shop? wait for the insurance company, call his or mine?
never done this before

I'm sorry.

Since it was no ones fault you're going to have to pay for it yourself or call your agent. If you go through insurance your rates are going to go up. So if it is at all possible, pay for it yourself. (Remember to use Acura/Honda certified parts to maintain your warranty, if it's still effective. You may want to look over your warranty/paperwork regarding this.)

You said there was damage to the frame of the car, that's not good, especially if you were to get into a future collision on that side of the car.

The best thing to do is get the TSX fixed and then trade it in for a new TSX, if you can finically afford to do that. Remember, your TSX is now worth a lot less.

PS I hope everything goes okay for you… your TSX is a gorgeous car!

Find a body shop "you" feel comfortable with and have them contact your insurance company to get started on fixing your TSX. Try to avoid bloodsucking leaches (that is, bodyshops) that will cut corners (repair instead of replace parts) and pocket what they can.

Sorry to hear about the accident and glad no one was hurt. That's all you can really hope for in these situations, regardless of who was or was not paying attention.

Pardon the ignorant question...but is that dent on the pillar considered frame damage? It doesn't seem that bad. Any how is that pillar area properly fixed?

It'd be a wise idea to go to a body shop and have them look at it and figure out if there is any frame or any other damage. Hopefully it's just cosmetic, but I have my doubts since it's on the pillar.

BTW, I second what you said, find a good body shop (talk to the dealer, ask around and when you find a shop, ask to see their work…)!

PS What about an alignment, will that need to be done?

Go to body shop recommended by your Acura dealer. Then have the "recommended" body shop quote you the cost of fixing it.

Take that quote to the insurance company and have them look it through. If your body shop has a good reputation, the insurance company will typically write you a check.

Insurance company don't like it when you give them a legitmate quote first. Then they can't give you a lousy quote for repair.

Good luck in your car. It should look good as new after proper repairs.

there isnt any alignment problems, drove back home without any trouble or issues

i already know an awesome bodyshop, they did work on my altima before
they are also recommended my by honda and acura dealers
and i like the fact that about 10 TLs, 3 TSXs, and shitloads of civics were waiting for his services in the parking lot.

its the New Ace Body Shop on 15th st in Bayonne, NJ

since it wasnt anybodys fault, is it best to go thru insurance or pay out of pocket?
also, some insurance companies dont raise their policy prices when u report claims
does anyone know if state farm does or not?

How is it no one's fault? Even two cars arrived at the stop sign intersection exactly the same time still gives the driver on the right the "right-of-way". Isn't it?

^ i agree with JTso. There has to be someone at fault. Since you got t-boned, its likely you started going first before the other person, unless the other person started going first and you sped up very fast or something.

well, i guess it could be considered both of our faults.
i stopped and then started to go, but by the time he saw me, it was too late.
but my view was also blocked by a car
i got away with minor whiplash and spinal injuries, the other dude sprained his wrist and totalled his car and his airbags went off (also, he was about 60 yrs old) so i felt kinda sorry for him

i guess u got a point there about all those cars at the body shop, but ive dealt with them before and they did an awesome and quick job. the paint matched perfectly and it looked good as new and i had it back in 2 days

im gonna head on over there tomm to get my baby checked out

Geez Someone must be at fault. Was it no fault on the police report? Was a ticket issued? Whoever got the ticket should be at fault. I used to live in Japan and their law states that if you are in an accident, both are at fault, even if it wasn't your fault, it's 10% your fault for just being there.

That sucks man. atleast your ok. The same thing just happened to me(except it was my fault) About 1 year into owning it with 19.5K on it. I just got mine back, and it runs good as new though Find a good body shop, you'd be suprised at how well they can fix it. Glad your ok though.....

I dont know about in the US but here in Ontario we also have "no fault insurance" and all it means is that each insurance company pays for their own car to be fixed regardlss of fault. There is still fault attached to the accident and your rates will be affected based on who is at fault. One of you has to be at fault, so if its not you i would be making sure that its noted somewhere. This is not a time to be worried about the old guy's feelings. He probably only pays $100 bucks a year in insurance! I had an accident with my previous car (not a TSX) and i was deamed at fault (eventhough i wasnt...but thats another story) and my insurance went up to $7,000 a year! It was an expensive lesson to learn!

It's more like everyone is at fault, if you're in an accident in a "No fault state", your own insurance pays for your repairs regardless of what happened. This came about because of all the organized crime causing accidents to sue for false medical problems.

well i jus got back from the body shop, it will set me back about $4k
they gonna deal with the insurance for me
i need a new post, rocker, and 2 new doors, they will also paint it

This is just an observation, but if you got T-boned on your driver's side, you must have been on his right, giving you the right of way at a four-way stop intersection. I obviously don't know any of the details of the accident, just an observation.

Also, by the way, that pillar is your "B" pillar. That's a bummer but it sounds like both your injuries are minor. Sounds like your TSX took pretty good care of you.

just waitin now for my agent to look at the car so they can start work on it

interesting story also, the owner of the shop was telling me about another TSX that came in last summer from Jersey City with a messed up bumper and bullet holes in it. Apparently, he wanted to get his car fixed ASAP and paid in cash and drove away 3 days later.

yes, he didnt stop at the stop sign, but since there were no witnesses, it was deemed nobodys fault

i rarely drive my TSX, only in the summertime mostly, as of now it has 1950 miles on it

Insurance take the word of the cops.

If your insurance is $7000/year , and the cop can't be on your side.... I would pay this repair out of my own pocket if it was me.

filed a police report, tho it took them over an hr to get there (had to call em over 6 times)
got all his insurance info and my company is on my side
lazy cops, gotta wait 5 days before i pick up my report and pay $2 for it

btw, im not payin $7k for insurance, lol

and i rarely drove it just to avoid these type of situations

I don't get your logic...this isn't some elite exotic...it is a car manufactured by Honda...

I suppose that I just don't see the TSX as a drive 35 miles a week kind of car...

i love my TSX
I treat all my cars the same
the thing is that i also got 2 other cars, an 04 Honda Pilot and an 01 Nissan Altima
The Altima is my everyday, school, shopping, errands car
The Pilot is mostly my long trip/ hauling people & stuff car
The TSX is my weekend/going to meetings/ fancy place car
It will be driven a lot now that summers comin and gas prices are goin up
