GPS Placement

Quick question for everyone out there. I'm looking to purchase a GPS and I was wondering what portale GPS units out there fit in the larger CD holder above the cigarette lighter. I dont want to run wires and I want it concealed when not in use. If anyone has found something that fits in there I'd appreciate the reco.

Thanks

I don't have a GPS but perhaps you can measure the opening where you want to stall it. Take those measurements with you when shopping for the GPS. That way you can buy one that fits.

Keep in mind you'll need to have the GPS antenna exposed preferably under the front of rear windows to get adequate reception from the satellites.

Mine is a few years old, so its big compared to the newer ones. But it is VERY easy to read. Here is a shot of it. I had a shop pull the "not an ashtray" compartment out, so I don't know how they did it. But it sure made the Comtech Short Shift kit go in easy!! I also made a "plug" so it doesnt have a big hole in there when I take it out. I can move it to any other vehicle I own, makes it very nice. Like PACman said, you will need an antenna, or the sats wont see it under there.

I have the TomTom 510 and it doesn't come with an extended antenna so I couldn't put it in that spot. You'll need to get one that has an extended antenna, though that's a first clue that the reception stinks (generally speaking)...

I've just went to TomTom's site and man, the new generation is much sleeker and has 'future-proof' maps where users share info and update to TomTom's site! Damn. I like that feature!

The top three features I would love to have are:

1) Updateable maps
2) Free traffic
3) Text to speech...

Now, if I only can marry TomTom with Navigon...
