Good choice on the MT... I don't know how well your GF drives stick (hopefully she knows mostly everything so you don't have to relearn)... but find someone that can drive fairly proficiently with the MT. Learning the right habits makes driving a lot more fun and easier.
A lot of my friends that have MT's still can't drive them properly and though they've been driving stick for over a couple years they still mess my car up when I let them drive it.

The very first thing one should learn when learning MT is how to find the engagement point well enough to start on a hill without using the hand or foot brake (preferably a pretty mild incline in an empty parking lot so you can do it 500 times in a row). Then you'll know how to use a clutch and the rest will be easy-peasy.

Yes, I know hill start with the clutch is essential. But I am basing my advice on the fact that he is new to MT. The best way to get confidence is to take it 1 step at a time. So flat road clutch start, then handbrake hill start and then finally, clutch hill start. You don't dump your kids into the deep end of the pool when they first learn to swim. You dump them in the shallow end first til they can thread water. THEN you cannon ball them halfway across the pool.

I just my got an 06 nhb mt tsx, and I had to learn stick on it. Its not too bad to learn on, i stalled once in a while but i can drive it pretty good now. I've been driving it for a little over a week and i'm not nervous anymore(even on hills).
