Get carwash at dealer or not?

I was wondering if any of you guys prefer getting car wash on any service from dealer or not..

Should I get car wash every time I get service from dealer or should I tell them not to??

Well...it should be a free wash since they're doing service so why wouldn't you want it?

NO NO NO NO NO! Absolutely NOT! ESPECIALLY if you have a dark colored car. The dealer will wash your car one of two ways, run it through a machine, or even go as far as handwashing it. But darker colors require a lot more care than lighter colors. Running a dark color through a machine, even CG will get you tons of surface swirl marks. They may tell you that it's sheep skin, but the whole time your clear coat is going "ouch ouch ouch". Same with handwashing. When you handwash with a dark color, it's especially important to keep a clean washing mitt when you are washing. Not sure if some of the porters that are washing your car are aware of that. I had the dealer wash my car once, and that was the last time they will ever wash my car.

I've seen mine wash before and they do it by hand so I usually opt for it especially if it's dirty. Be careful though. Some hire a young kid to use a pressure washer and some crappy soap.

If its a hand wash....YES. Its free isnt it? If they run it through a carwash....then obviously not.

Let me quote someone I know very well, who does the washing at Acura here in Ohio... "Its nothing more than dirting being transferred from one car to another." No one but me washes my car, but I'm like that.

It depends on how particular you are about your car. Some people I know could care less as long as its washed. I'm not one of them. I prefer to wash it myself because that way I know how its handled and if I get any swirls/scratches then I know who to blame. The dealer will not treat it with the same care as you would.

I've seen how dealers wash cars. It's either through a machine or brush wash. Btw, it's the same brush they use on the wheels and tires or whatever.

I Detail at the Acura dealership in my city, and most of the time we use brushes to wash service cars, but all detailed new cars are washed with mits.

haha, not much you can do about it now except buff all of the swirls out.
Go look at your car from a few different angles on bright sunny days. Especially on the hood. See anything you dont like?

We have a whole Wash & Wax section to help you out: Off Topic / Wash & Wax
Here is a thread addressing swirls: https://acurazine.com/forums/wash-wax-23/got-swirls-all-over-my-tl-331426/
And another "swirl" thread with some great info: https://acurazine.com/forums/wash-wax-23/first-hand-wash-got-swirl-330663/

Essentially, to remove swirls you need to polish, waxing will just put a wax coat over them. If the swirls are minute you could use NXT which will fill them in temporarily. It'll look a bit better but will only last as long as the NXT lasts.

Neither. You need to buff or at least hand-polish with proper liquid polish.

If you wash properly and take the time to do it right, the swirls wont get any worse. But if you continue to let them wash it, you will just get more and more swirls. So go check out our wash and wax forum and read carefully the section about washing properly. Then read up on getting rid of swirls. If the swirls aren't noticeable like you are saying, ou might be able to just use meguirs NXT polymer and fill the swirls in.

Good luck.

What about the so-called "touch-free" wash? This is what my dealer has. They also use that filtered water as the car drys on its own w/o water spots.

Touchfree:
1) Not that clean, usually leaves a film on the car.
2) High pressure from the water can push salt and other debris into deeper crevices of the car
3) Can rip off that super duper 3 foot high spoiler (or replica mugen kit :P) on your car.

Cloth:
1) can scratch car
2) tracks can damage rims and tires
3) Can rip off that super duper 3 foot high spoiler (or replica mugen kit :P) on your car.
