Question Fuel---Supreme?Mid-Grad?

Here's a question that relates to something where all paying dearly for...GAS!!!

Gas is up to almost $3 and it doesn't seem like it's coming down...I'm considering downgrading to mid-grade fuel...Do you think it will have much of an effect on my TSX? he car calls for the best but I'm trying to pinch a penny...

Let me get your thoughts...

Let's say you fill up once a week, and the difference in price is $0.10/gallon between premium and midgrade.

52 fillups * approx 14 gallons * $0.10 = $72.80 per YEAR in extra money...

It's a lot less than you think. Hell it's only $1.40/fillup more, and it is what Honda engineered the K24 around.

My understanding is gas/oil refineries don't make a mid-grade fuel. What you get is mixed at the station, between the high grade and low grade. Do you really trust the gas station? Talking at work with people that drive the gasoline trucks, I don't trust the gas station owners.

If you really cannot afford to spend the difference between premium and mid-grade (or even regular), maybe you need to trade the car for an Accord.

I think the question you should ask is if it will have an effect on your wallet. I consider myself a conservative when it comes to my finances, but I can always find other things to cut out of my budget that are less necessary. For example, buy one less beer when/if you go out to the bars and you will save approximately $260 a year or possibly cut down on other frivilous spending. I think that you bought a $30k car you might as well give it the gas it requires and find your savings in other places.

BTW this forum does show love in the threads, but there is some frustration when there is a repeat of topics day after day. Especially when it is something that can easily be searched.

Thanks for the response Curls. My favorite post is Gibson's--"the king of cool" with Seinfeld picture on his profile--It's cancelled brother, move on. So, I didn't check the thread who the f cares. Answer the questions and move on. If you don't care to answer than spare us all. To Gibson--pls. reply to this one and make sure you post a long diatribe about how bad this thread is, all of us want to hear what you have to say---not.

Oh no not ban me???? What will I do? How will I spend my days??? Do what you want man, this is sounding like high school, "I'll ban you". Give a guy a group to moderate and he becomes the enforcer. Kinda reminds me of those crossing guards that thought they were cops. Save your energy, I won't be partaking in this rediculous banter anymore.

Get a Discover gas CC, 5% cash back on all gas, you end up getting supreme for few less cents then what mid grade cost.

Here's what I think:
  • The difference for premeium fuel isn't sufficient if you really look at it to warrant taking a chance with your car
  • The savings won't even be as much as you think when you factor in the loss in MPG when you don't use premium
  • The loss in performance is enough to not make me do it (maybe not you)
  • You spent a little extra to get a good car. Isn't it worth it to get all you paid for and to protect your investment?

Gibson, not looking to impress, but funny how you brought it up. I was looking for input and I have gotten some.

I actually put the fuel in and the difference is very noticeable. My other car is a CLK and tried the change and it's less noticeable than in the TSX.
