Sorry all. I'd starting typing (sans one thumb, thanks to the TSX) on my iPhone, and then I had to log in in another screen, and when it came back to this one, the paragraph I'd started typing had gone away. Par for the course for yesterday, that's for damned sure.
After a day and a half of trying to dampen the vibration/rattling in my trunk (caused by new speakers in the doors that enable/cause me to listen to my music at a higher volume AND aided by a misplaced sense of confidence/"Sure I can do that, it can't be that hard"), I have found myself with almost more problems that I set out to solve. There are a few other little "projects" in the car that I'm experiencing extra issues with (e.g., the short in the shift gate light), so the list isn't 100% related to the trunk/rear shelf area. What it all boils down to is the following.
Speaker upgrade prompted door rattle cure. Applying Dynamat resulted in broken door clips, a scuffed up and dented door panel, broken adapter rings, numerous cuts/scratches on my hands, yadda, yadda. Speaker upgrade also prompted iPod adapter. Ipod adapter install resulted in more cuts, a broken armrest tab, and a shorted-out shift gate light. I also wound up re-doing the install of the HON3 so I could put it in a better place. I still don't have a cradle for the damned iPhone, and now I have an extra hole in my armrest (down by the 12v, no biggie).
Speaker upgrade also resulted in ghetto-ass sounding tinny/vibration rattling from the trunk. I'd already taped up the seat belt cover, etc., but with the volume cranked, it sounded like I was running a 1987 Ford Fiesta with Jensen speakers or something. Sunday afternoon, I began the arduous process of removing the rear shelf. Total PITA. Whatev, I got the f--king thing off after a couple hours--but not before I sliced the HELL out of my thumb. Looking at it, I could tell I needed about three stitches, but I just patched up myself, tried not pass out when I had to trim a flap of skin off, and went back to work. I got the rear shelf Dynamatted in about 257 pieces (okay, more like 35 or 40), and closed down for the night so I could hang with the honey.
Next day, I think, "It won't take long to finish up." WRONG! Good news: I now have a hook in my spare tire cover, a-la the TLs; I have little vibration and rattle outside the car, and my trunk has never been cleaner nor quieter. Bad news: I still can't get my high mount brake light fully clipped in; my rear seat cushion isn't bolted, only clipped, because (I guess) I need to remove the seat backs, even though I never took them off (only the bolsters and the cushion/bottom part), and I have a delicious gouge in my tint from me messing with the brake light.
This a.m., a member PM'ed me with a couple of questions about my recent audio upgrade. He'd read that I'd removed my tweeters (mostly because I have the "snap" in them on occasion and because the new Alpines have tweeters in them). Out of curiosity, I tried to reconnect the tweeters (super simple to do). But the driver's side one had fallen into the dash, and I couldn't get it. FML.
I spent all day, from about 10 till about 3, fucking with that BS. I finally got it out, but not before busting and then managing to jimmy rig the A/C vent cover and gettin' myself a shiny, new bleeder on my middle finger (poetic justice). Did I mention FML?
Acura TSX = 2; Me = 0 (okay, 0.5).
BTW, PACman: LMAO!!!! That is awesome.

I was just venting and looking for a little empathy. I know I'm not the only one on Earth who has ever had a streak of bad luck whilst DIYing. Besides, being a kinesthetic learner, I don't tend to learn much when someone else works on my car. Well, that's not exactly true. About 1/3 of the things I have DIYed on my car were me fixing crap that "Someone Else" busted: indy shops, stealerships, a (Honda) body shop, and a pro tint installer.
Option A: Pay someone to work on my car who doesn't care about it/know about it like I do, and still have to work on it myself later; or
Option B: Have some injuries, frustration, sore muscles, but learn boatloads and post on Azine so others might learn from my experiences, too?
I'll take Option B. And it's dudette to you.
FYI, from a grammar nerd: An ellipsis has only three periods. From the Book of Armaments: "Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out."

Let me help you!
It looks like you found where all the sharp edges are on the TSX. Maybe you should check out some work gloves. I used to have a pair that I liked to use, but I got them soaked in motor oil (so now they are slimy).

Update: It's 8:45p where my TSX lives, and I just finished a little leisurely, minor trim work on my baby. First, I did manage to jimmy-rig the A/T shifter light, using the socket and wire I'd clipped from the center cubby light. Second, I finally got a non-scratched escutcheon cover from the dealer (first one I ordered and took home had a prominent scratch on it) and install it, along with the center console trim--which I'd also already planned to install, thanks to a car air freshener mishap #Glade #fail).
I used lots of protection (hehehe), aka painter's tape, and I went at a deliberate pace. It looks really nice, and I have the added satisfaction of knowing I saved $65 on a wire harness just using a little ingenuity. As of today, TSX = 2; Me = 1.5.
