flip-down monitor

flip-down monitor
I'm debating whether to put in a roof-mount flip-down monitor.
To be honest, I used to think the i-VES (pic) was ridiculous for a car the size of TSX
It will be monitor only, DIY, not i-VES, I already have an in-dash DVD player,
so I have the option to find a "slim" one.
what do you think ?

I'd worry about it blocking your rear view. How about doing the headrest monitors instead? The LCD screens are pretty cheap nowadays and that way you wouldn't have to cut up your headliner.

I weighted btw headrest and flip-down
flip-down just seems to make more practical, sense
* Bigger monitor, this alone, to me, justifies it - the biggest Headrest you can get is what 7" ?
* Less work, less complexity, Headrest = twice the work
* Cost less
member "sebo" reported that it blocks very little rearview

Yeah, it would be 7" if you're lucky. The TSX headrest is small. How big of a screen were you thinking for the flip down. A slim model sounds pretty cool though. I would think if you got a 10" or something then it would definitely block rear view.
So what kind of work is involved with installing a flipdown? You just thave to run the wiring down the headliner area? I guess it's just 4 wires. Power, ground, constant, and video RCA. That doesn't sound too bad, but I just don't like the fact that you would have to drill mounting holes and cut the headliner . If you don't ever planning on removing the screen that's fine though.

this pdf will be my guide
No drilling on TSX, see page 11, 12, there are holes on the beam behind liner.
I read what people do is use a piece of plywood as mounting base.
(this replaces the metal "mounting bracket" that comes with i-VES)
You drill holes in the plywood to bolt to the beam.
And the rest is easy.
Yeah, what scares me is cutting the liner and no mistake allowed.
