Scratch Issue : To Tint or Not to Tint

Plz chime in on what you think/know.....I am stuck

I want tints & seems to me a lot people here got tints too
But have read some people complaints about the scratch issue
due to absense of inside felt.....

Those of you who don't have scratch problem....did you have
the felt installed ???
I don't like the idea of having the door panel taken apart in order to install the felt.

I am also considering if I should get tint or not. You people with tinted windows. Did you guys buy them stick on tints from stores like autozone?

Damn! I assume you didn't go for the moleskin...

Is it covered under warranty from your tint shop?

I have some small scratches in my tint, but they are hardly noticable, and it doesn't seem to get any heavier with use... Had mycar 4 mos and tinted for 3.

Wait several more months and the scratches will be more noticable. 11 months after I had the windows tinted, I could see the scratches from the outside. So I took it back to the shop and they replaced the tint under warranty, but I had to pay for the "felt" material to be put on. I don't have anymore scratches now.

Can the moleskin be purchased online anywhere (in small quantities)? I would do that part myself if I could find the stuff. It seems like it's only available to dealers in bulk!

I'm also itching to get my tints put on...this is the only thing holding me back!

I have a few light scratches in the drivers/right rear windows. That's not too bad considering they've been tinted for a year, and i roll them down (with the remote) every time I walk up to the car.

If you get the TSX tinted, I would recommend getting the moleskin. I've developed some light scratches on both front windows. They're not a big enough deal right now for me to bring back to the tinter to get it re-tinted. When I do bring it back though, I'm going to have him put on the moleskin so I don't have to worry about it anymore afterwards.

What is the moleskin supposed to do, prevent scratches? I'm getting my windows tinted this week and was wondering if i should request moleskin.

Tint is an absolute must here in Phoenix. Even if installing felt was not an option, tint with lots of scratches is better than no tint.

dude. tint is not a major issue. if it's hot get it. if it's not hot where you are, don't get it. i don't have scratches when i roll down my window, which at least once a day b/c i have to badge in to get to work.

and any minor ones i did have, eagle 1 window cleaner got rid of them, or at least hid them well enough where i can't see.

It's felt that you apply to the inner wiper of the door so that your tint doesn't get scratched. Some people get the scratches, some don't. I thought I'd be one of the lucky ones who didn't get the scratches, but I got some after a couple of months. If you go to acura-tl.com and do a search on "moleskin" you'll find a whole bunch of threads about it.

Final Check before Tint

Re the "scratch issue" due to the absense of inside felt strips...
Now I 'd rather not have my doors taken apart to put in the felt strips.
Is this a matter of skill/experience of the installer that there'll be no scratch w/o putting in the felt ? or I just have take the chance ?

Is this something I should verify with the installer ?

Do you have to start another thread for this? You could just continue the old one, n'est-ce pas? Besides, in that thread you were told to search, and you'd find an answer to all your quuestions. Wisen up!

IBTL please.

I wish I had my felt strips put in. I wanted to save money--it was $25 a window. However, now I have scratches!

I have scratches on mine, and I know the guys who applied my tint did a great job, I've had them do many cars of mine, and friends. You just have to take that risk.

I don't think it has anything to do with skill because the installer can't prevent the window from rubbing against the inside panel.

kind of....the new responses really help clarifying the "skill" doubt I have.

Wrong answers Mr. Geek.

You may ask these new questions in the thread you already had running. There's no problem in keeping the conversation running by asking supplemental questions. Thread whoring like you do is just a waste of bandwidth, and a waste of everyone's time.

If I tell you to continue on your old thread, you continue on it. I hope we are clear?

Note that your 3 threads about the same basic topic has been merged. It should ring you a bell about what we are trying to tell you.

You get neg rep from me as well.

I got my windows tinted and asked about the felt being installed and the guy said that he's done many tsx's without having that problem, and so far i've had no problems
