Factory won't make ABP 6MT??
So I ordered an ABP 6MT TSX w/ black interior back in the end of January. I called today to see what the status was and to find out when it would probably be delivered. Found out that neither last month nor this month would the factory accept my order because they weren't going to do a run on that color combination. So either I have to wait yet another month just to see if they'll say no again, or I'll have to find some color they'll actually make. Has anyone else run into this before?
They say they can flatbed one in for 500-750 but I didn't want to pay that initially. I think I'm going to tell them to flatbed it to me for free or the deal is off. I might try RBP first though since I like that color too. This is just annoying, now I probably won't see the car until June or so. Well, unless they ship it for free.

You're waiting for one to be built in Japan when there's one already made sitting in the US? You're nuts. Call other dealers if yours wants to charge you for it, you'll find one that will do a dealer swap for free for you.

Well I don't know if there's one sitting in the US, they couldn't find one in TX or the surrounding states last time I asked. I won't pay for it though, so they'll probably deal. I just thought it was odd that the factory wouldn't build one in two months.

Well they claimed they'd be 'losing money' and wouldn't do it even though I was paying $1000 over invoice not including the transportation. So I cancelled that order. Guess no TSX for me until another dealership will work with me.

Maybe so. I am talking to another dealership now but it is sounding like we are going to get to the same place where they want me to cover the cost to truck it in.
Maybe I picked too rare of a specimen to find.

I think the dealer is BSing you. There can't not be one in the entire state of texas. Texas is pretty big and i'm sure there are lots of dealers around. Some are either too lazy, or they want to make the sale with something they have on the lot becuase they probably make more money on it. I would call around first before you actually show up.

Sounds EXACTLY like what I went through up here in Illinois. Either one of those blues are considered a rare color and when you combo that with 6MT, there simply aren't any RBP on any lots in the whole country. There was a ABP a couple months ago, but the dealer would've needed to put it on a truck and charge me about $400 (I didn't want ABP, I wanted RBP). This, of course, is negotiable, especially if you're $1000 over invoice. I ordered a red/ebony 6MT with navi and it is not scheduled to be built until April.

Yeah I guess they are hard to find in that combination. Hopefully someone can find one, I may have to pay a few hundred more. I may be wrong about invoice though, I think I was going on last year's price, I offered 26,500, that may be just 500 over invoice according to Yahoo.

Thanks for the tip, though I just talked to them and they are willing to give it to me for no extra cost to truck it over (which is great). Also I'm not sure but I may be able to avoid the costly TX sales tax if I register it in OK and then re-register it in TX. That would sure be cool, save me a couple grand almost.

This same thing happened to me. I initially wanted a RBP but there were only 2 of them in 6 surrounding states. After dealing with dealer after dealer trying to get one shipped in for me, none would budge on the rediculous transportation costs. So, I settled for Alabaster Silver Metallic and couldn't be happier.

I can tell you from personal experience with this color on the 2005, that they are rare. I had the same problem, had to wait 3 months although there was a ABP navi 6mt sitting in a few states away...i wouldn't pay extra(thought that is what destination charge was about) and didn't want 600 miles already on my car. Make sure they aren't driving it out to you, you don't want a "used" new car.

Yeah I hope everything is as they say, the guy from a local dealership said he couldn't even get one trucked in until March.
They said I could get it this weekend, so I'll report back!

I might have gone with with the carbon grey color, except the dealer couldn't get one of those (immediately). Another dealer in town had the ABP, and they just did whatever deal they do (no cost to me). Although, I did give the dealer plenty of profit, so I'm not feeling sorry for them.

$1k over invoice isn't a hard bargain. $500 over is not even difficult to get. Flatbedding a car a couple hundred miles for a dealer swap doesn't cost the dealer $500 either, and it shouldn't cost you a dime. If there's no car to get that's another story, all the money in the world won't get your car built any faster it seems and then it has to be shipped from Japan and flatbedded from the dock (funny how they don't try to charge you for that, innit?).

Yeah I guess you are right. They are being stingy though. I am waiting to hear back from this dealer again because they called this morning and told me the blue one they had found was actually an automatic. I may have to end up getting another color or forgetting the TSX altogether.

Just thought I'd chip in my horror story I'm going through also. I have a thread going about my problems also but I'm in kinda the same boat you are. My salesguy I'm going through has tried to get the car I'm wanting supposedly 7 times now. Via a dealer swap or an order already on it's way here from Japan or whatever. So supposedly there's 7 of the car that I'm looking for that I could get from someone else since my guy "can't get em for me" I got the price I wanted from him though and he's local so I don't have to go out of state to get it. But enough is enough. Is my salesguy just an absolute moron, lazy or just doesn't give a rat's ass about getting me the car I want?

I dunno, maybe some combos are just really hard to come by. I will have to compromise on color unless I want to wait indefinitely for the factory to actually make it.

But we got lucky, a ABP 6-MT. Unfortunately, with such a rare car it is difficult to deal.

Hey Zephrem
I live in the Pacific Northwest, Idaho to be specific. Would you be so kind as to let me know who this dealer is???

Well I am working with another dealer who will honor my original offer. I am expanding my search to several colors in hopes to actually find a car.
They said that the other dealership was making that stuff up about the factory not making it and probably what happened was that I was low priority and so they didn't want to fit my order into their monthly allotment. Whatever the case, hopefully I'll be in a TSX within a few weeks, whatever color.
