Post The Engine Thread

So what do you guys think of the engine? My last set of wheels was a big V6... so to some extent I am missing some muscle.

However... I've driven plenty of 4-cyls... and hated them all.

The TSX's inline-4 however... is... for lack of a better term... unusual. I'm still trying to make up my mind. Now given... I'm not expecting 400HP... but the 200HP under the trunk is respectable.

But I get this wierd feeling when I really push the engine... like the engine is not really flexing... however the performance is there. A very unusual phenomenon that I'm trying to put into words.

Where would you put the engine on the scale of...

How about a refined 4 cylinder that offers power without being coarse/rough while being reliable and having the latest technology?

I love the engine, I'd give it a 10 on my 4 cylinder list but since I've driven the CRX VTi (175 hp) and S2000 (240 hp!), i'll have to give it a 9.9

Well ... I feel the TSX is a quick/agile car ... so the engine to me fulfills the role of being quick. But this is not to be mistaken with fast.

I think the ONLY fault to find in the TSX is where it could have had more muscle, Acura opted for the quick and refined I4 in this case. I for one hope the next TSX has some more substantial power to match with its unbelievable FWD handling.

prov, your car can go plenty fast, speed wise.

crazy, I think this is the best I4 at the moment. Sure, the one in S2000 packs more power in a even smaller package, but its torque band makes it less suitable for civilized driving. As for your engine scale, it all depends on what you are talking about, for pure power, it's only middle of the pack, but the technologies that it presents, make it way up there, and then there is that fun factor when you really rev it up, MAGNIFICO!!

I think the TSX is a great 4 cylinder vehicle to own. I think it delivers high performance for just a 4 cylinder engine. The technology that is available nowadays is unbelievable and I hope it only continues to improve with time. My suggestion would be to go ahead and get the TSX if you feel comfortable with its performance behind the wheel. Just my 2 cents on the topic.

as far as the AP2 (2004-present) F22C1 S2000 engine goes, i would have to disagree. they dropped the peak torque down about 1000 RPM and also increased it to 162 lb/ft...it is a big difference compared to the first iteration (F20C from 2000-2003). it is as good or better around town under 4,500 RPM compared to my old TSX.

but you're right, the TSX I4 was nice.
