Door Locks

I have had my 05 TSX silver/ebony with Navi for about 4 days now. I could not be happier with the car. But I do have 1 question. Is there a way to make the doors lock when the car is put into drive and then unlock when the car is parked???
Just thought I'd ask... I appriciate any advise.

Nope. Not unless you do some internal rewiring.

I thought locking your doors while driving was a because it makes it harder for a rescue if you were in a crash?

No problem, they just use the BFH.

my wife's jeep libert does it. Actually, the doors lock when you turn the key (so long as no doors or trunk is open). The doors also UNlock when the car is then turned off(I think).

It was also a feature on my Clifford Alarm I had for my 5th Gen Prelude.

Actually I've been told that you should have doors locked so that you aren't thrown from the car. . .

My aftermarket clifford locks the doors when I turn the ignition on.

I think the only way to have this feature is to have an aftermarket alarm that will do it.

Auto locks are scary

Self-locking doors are pretty scary:

Two true stories:

1) A friends car locked up in the car wash (the kind of wash where the driver gets out) while rolling forward on the conveyor belt! Keys were in the car. Had to call a locksmith to get back in the car.

2) About 9 months ago there was a story in one of my car mags (Automobile Magazine? - not sure, I read lots of mags.). The auto reporter was driving a new car that he was doing a story on, was out west, driving through the desert. He had to take a leak, so he exited the car leaving the engine running (was in the middle of the desert, no one around). You guessed it, while he was happily wissing away the heard the doors lock themselves! Was hours before he was able to get help.

BTW: 1,700 miles on my TSX, a factory order in September with delivery 11/28. Love it. Tight as a tick, no squeeks, no rattles and oil is right up to the mark. Car is a blast to drive. Can't get over it!

I've had "auto locks" on two cars so far, both came from alarm systems I had installed. In neither case would the car "relock" an unlocked door. The only way for the "auto lock" to lock doors again would be to turn the car off and then start the car again. I was always paranoid about it locking me out but it never happened. In fact in my first car if I unlock one door, opened the door and then shut it, all the doors would UNLOCK. . .

We had two German cars before our present two cars (one of which is our '05 TSX).
Both German cars, a Passat and an Audi TT, locked the doors at 8 mph, and unlocked them when the key was removed after a stop. It was pretty convenient and we liked and got used to that feature.
Neither one of our present cars has auto lock/unlock, but it's not like we haven't gotten used to manual locking/unlocking. We love the TSX so much, it doesn't really matter to us.

This feature is on my BMW X5....the locks will engage at 8 mph. However, the doors do not unlock when the engine is turned off.

I recently installed a Clifford Matrix 3.5 and it has this feature on it. It can be programmed to lock/unlock with the starting and shutting off the engine. Cool feature that I have always loved, especially with kids in the car.

I too had this feature in my Integra with a Clifford alarm system. I personally don't mind not having it. I like to be the first on in my car and I usually try starting the car as soon as I'm settled in. Often times, this means that other people have not gotten in my car and it's a pain in the ass to have to unlock the doors again because I started the car already.

i think this feature would get on my nerves, what if ur trying to drop someone off? u would have to unlock the car mannually to let the person out because the engine would still be running.

You can still unlock the door whenever you want... it's not like you are locked in whenever the engine is on.

Same with my Jeep Grand Cherokee (although you can turn it off if you want). Turn on car, go past 8-15 mph (or something) and the doors lock. Turn off car, you manually unlock doors and walk out.

It's an okay feature, but I drive with my doors locked all the time. I've been the attempted car jacking victim twice now.

AHH yes, now that you said that, the locks on my wife's jeep liberty engage at 15mph!! Also unlock when ignition is then turned to off position.

My Ford Explorer's locks automatically locked when I released my foot from the brake. They did not automatically unlock, but like most (all?) Fords, when you pull on the inside door handle, the lock pops open, allowing you to leave without having to press any unlock buttons. I felt that was one of the most useful of all features of my old Explorer (which I loved, but not as much as my TSX). It also had a handy backlit keypad on the driver's door that would unlock the doors with the press of a PIN code. Wonderful for the beach if you don't want to take your keys (and don't expect bandits to break in!)
