Dog owners?

So, my wife and I recently adopted a "Daug" (Daschund + Pug mix) puppy and I was wondering what advice anyone has regarding prepping their TSX to transport a 12wk old pup? What do you do to keep your interior seats/doors in pristine order? What tips do you have?

Not looking forward to fouling my TSX up... we've been putting her in a fairly large shoe box with towels as she loves to cuddle against something soft.

See pup here.

Depends on the dog of course. We have a Corgi that likes to roam around the car and look out the window. Completely unacceptable in the RL and TL, so the Prelude's backseat will be hers. Plus its easy to clean. Until the Prelude is finished, we've been using either a kennel or my fiancee just holds her. Some dogs WILL sit still and where they are supposed to. Your mileage will vary

My Jack Russell rides in the TSX quite a bit. I went to the local fabric store and bought a few yards of fleece that had a paw print design. (so that everyone knows that my back seat is covered up for dogs. I don't want people to think that I'm so anal about my car that I keep the back seat covered for no reason.) I double the fleece over so that the seat gets 2 layers of protection and then I tuck it in all of the folds so that the blanket does not slide around. It tucks snugly under the front edge of the seat cushion and between where the bottom of the seat cushion meets the back. Plus it's easy to remove when I have guests in the car. It's a cheap, easy solution to my problem. Also, if your dog likes to run around the back seat once he is bigger, a dog seat belt may be in order. I know it sounds goofy, but when my Jack Russell was younger, it was the only way I could keep him from jumping on everything and scratching up the door panels. Good luck!

Sorry to throw cold water on the parade, but if you really care about the dog, you'll transport him/her in a secured carrier or crate. Think about dog vs front seat back (or dashboard, or windshield) at even 20 mph (and that's a pretty mild scenario).

Put him in a carrier and run a seatbelt through the handle. Pretty easy to do with a small dog.

I just put a baby blanket on my front seat and my puppy just sits there. Well she is 4, not so much a puppy anymore. It probably would be a good Idea to put her in a crate though. I had a deer run out in front of me the other day and I slammed on the Brembos and my little dog went THUD on the glove box. Poor girl... She is a trooper though. Just got right up and sat on the passenger seat like nothing happened

For a small dog, I'd get a carrier that can fit in the back seat.

For a bigger dog, I'd get one of these hammock type things.

I have a collie and I've dealt with this matter exactly like spoiledkari did only without a dog-paw print =)
My dog is rather calm during car trips but has A LOT of fur so I have to do some vacuuming everytime she travels with me...
btw, here's Milly:

very cute dog, congrats.

When i used to transport my pug in the car I would take a cloth and put it on the seats to save the leather, but he loved to look out the window and i couldnt stop him from moving around. In cases like that, a crate is useful

I'm doing the same thing soon. Just got a rotty so a crate isn't feasible. I found them cheaper at petsmart though if anybody looks into them.

Hence the doggie seatbelt if I'm taking a long trip. Around town, I just let him hang out in the back seat. Doggie seatbelts are a very good investment. BTW...how do you think it would feel to slam your head up against a metal crate???? Same thing as the back of the seat!

I have two male doxies, both are 2 years old. All I do is put a towel either on the passenger floor or on the seat and they sit there. That way when traveling with more people they stay in front and don't bother all the passengers. After 2 or 3 short trips they learn where their place is in the car. Tsx's are very easy to clean, just vacum the short hair. You will only notice the hair in the center console...which you can wipe....
with the soft shammy's to dry the car.....
the only thing that bothers me is that they love to put their noses in the tinted windows....but with that shammy you just wipe the mess out easily
