Even less of an argument than an oil issue. The short answer: but do watch out for stations that have been known to water down the gas or have other issues.

The reality today is that most gasoline in any area comes from the same 2 or 3 refineries. In the 60s, when we had thousands of small refineries all around the US, there were probably real differences between brands, but today the reality is that that's not the case any longer.

In addition, there are a lot more rules about detergents and additives. They vary somewhat from state to state and from season to season, but they tend to enforce fairly uniform quality to gasoline in any one area at any time. Gasoline forumulation does vary at different times of the year and in different regions. Car manufacturers truck in gas from all over the place to test their vehicles with various formulations.

Here and there you'll run into a gas station that "waters down" premium fuel with regular, but even that's pretty rare.
