Delivered!!!!

I have been waiting all morning for my dealer to call me to let me know my car is in. I finally get the car... and I can't pick it up until tomorrow!!!!

What kind of prep work do they have to do to it?

If you're talking PDI.. There's a long checklist of mundane details they have to go through - from checking fluids and tire pressures to ensuring operation of the cruise control, wipers, seats, etc... (not to mention making sure all shipping material is off the car) before they deliver it to you. I didn't read the entire list, but your dealer should give you a PDI checklist with your manuals.

What would they install on their own?

A dealer wouldn't/shouldn't install something on a car for that you have ordered without your consent. For cars that loiter in the showroom, however, some dealers load a bunch of overpriced fluff. These may include:

- Scotch-guarding the interior and charging $150 for it (you can buy a $6 can at K-Mart).

- Adding some notion of extra underbody coating (which could be damaging by blocking the engineered vents, etc.).

- Applying polymer resin polish to your car's exterior, which you can do yourself with a $10-15 bottle of polish.

- Tacking on pinstripes, molding strips, gold lettering, etc.

Some dealer installed changes could include changing the rims or tires, cladding, spoilers, foglights, etc.

Most dealers I went to automatically added mud guards, wheel locks, protectant paint and sometimes the trunk tray. Since I bought my car off the lot and didn't want them, I got them at n/c.
