Dealing with Distant Dealers
Anyone have any experience or advice to share concerning dealing with far away dealers when purchasing (and possibly eventually maintaining) your Acura? We have a single local Acura dealer, and the nearest others are about 400 miles north, 300 miles south, or even farther west. When the time comes to buy (a couple months), I'd like to have more options than just Mr. Local Dealer.
Mr. Local isn't necessarily bad, but the chances of him having the car I want (the permutations of nav/no nav/ MT vs AT, color) aren't very high. It is a smallish dealer, who often only has one TSX on the lot.
Aside from ordering a fresh one from the factory (another alternative ?), what are your ideas on this dilemma? Thanks.

Tell him you really like the Mazda 6, and appear undecided until you sign.

I bought a car about 100 miles from where I live. I took the car to a local dealer to get the headlight fixed and the dealer said they would call me back when the part came in. After waiting a few weeks I called and they said they are still waiting for the part. It's been about 5 months and they still haven't called. Needless to say, I took it to another local dealer about 20 miles away and they fixed it. Overall I think the Acura dealers really suck. I've had Nissan's and Toyota's and never had a problem getting the car serviced from other dealers for warranty work. Because of this, I'll never buy another Acura.

I bought my TSX from a dealer about 250 miles from my house. I tried working with the 2 local dealers, but they wouldn't budge so I called the out of town dealer, asked for the Sales Manager, and basically told him that if we could come to an agreement on a price in the next 10 minutes then I would be there in 4 hours to pick up the car. We came to a price that I liked, including my trade-in (I sent him photos over the internet), and in about 5 hours I was driving home in my new TSX. If you go this route I would make sure that you have a loan approval before you commit. It is one less thing that they can stick you with at the last minute.
