Angry A Dealer Horror Story

One of my car seat cover has a crease from day-1 and got progressively worse. A couple of weeks ago, I made an appointment with my dealer in Northern NJ to get it replace under warranty. Here is where the horror story starts...

the tech dropped the seat while working on it. The seat track scratched up the door sill and moldings in that area. The dealer admitted fault and agreed to get it fixed. They kept the car for two days to get a bodyshop to fix the scratches. When I got the car back, it had an additional 80 miles on it. The trip from dealer to bodyshop is less than ten miles roundtrip. The bastards took it for a joy ride and burnt almost a quarter tank of gas. The trip computer was reading 18MPG. I always get above 25MPG on the computer. They must have rev'd the crap out of the car too. Talking about adding insult to injury!

Of course, the dealer denies everything!

I am thinking about reporting this incident to Acura Corporate. Will Corporate respond? What do you guys think?

I doubt Acura Corporate would do anything, maybe they had to drive it to some bodyshop or other play to get it fixed? cuz this is interior work.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to call them and complain, but it would probably have to be taken up with the GM of the dealership. Which dealer was this btw?

When leaving it for them to send out to fix, always wait til you have less than a 1/4 tank of fuel left. hehe.

bluexcrush: the dealer did have to take the car to a bodyshop. The bodyshop is less than ten miles away roundtrip. That leaves seventy unanswered miles.

LuvMyTSX: the dealer is DCH Montclair Acura.

pizzaman555: the body scratches are fixed. There is a few small serrated cuts on the steering wheel. The dealer denied responsibility. In a way, just as well, I think I'll just live with it rather than letting them monkey with it further. Especially having to deal with electronics connected to the steering wheel.

I know the engine will be fine. That's not my issue. I felt a breach of trust and a sense of being violated. Life is a bitch, I guess.

aaronng: I brought the car in with almost a full tank. It was *suppose* to be simply to replace the seat cover - not body work, not damaged moldings, not scratch-up steering wheel.

Bottom line for me - corporate or no corporate - this is my last time going to DCH Montclair - sales, services or otherwise!!!

Thanks all for your replies.

I learned that lesson about a month ago when I took my TSX in for some warranty work with a full tank of gas. The Range displayed was 432 and when I picked up the car they had clocked about 4 miles but the range displayed 387. They must have revved the shit out of it but I ain't gonna make that mistake again.

I think in your case, they left it idling for a long time. But there is no denying that joyrides do happen. So that's why I try to leave less than a 1/4 tank of fuel in the car when I send it in for service.

Princeton might be a bit of a drive for you if you're in North Jersey, but I've never had an issue at Precision Acura on Rt. 1 in Princeton. Been going there almost 2 years now.

It probably wasn't the Acura guys that took your car on a joyride. I'm guessing the Acura guys are around those cars all day so driving one is nothing new. It was probably the body shop people.

I wrote a letter to Acura Corporate before to complain, they called me the following week. The case manager sounded all sincere when he left me a VM.

When I returned his call he never picked up. So I left him an angry msg...
"You say you want to help me resolve this issue, but how is that suppose to work if you never return my calls or pick up the phone?!" An hour later he called with some sorry excuse about being out sick.

Not helpful!
