Dealer has VIN number, does that mean it's in the U.S.?

My dealer has the VIN number for my car and I've already purchased it. My question is, does that mean it's in the U.S.? Are VIN numbers made available to dealers when the car hits the shores in San Diego?

They said the "ship date" was 7/22 - I assume that's when it left Japan. He didn't know what the build date was, but was going to check on that.

No, it does not always mean that. It could mean he has seen an invoice about it being shipped.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

No, I had my VIN when it was still floating over the Pacific. FYI- it took a total of a month for mine to arrive after it was built (I bought it while it was on the ship). Two weeks of that was while it was shipped across the country and distributed; since you're in CA, hopefully it will be quicker for you.

Thanks for the reponses, it looks like my car will arrive in the U.S. in a few days so I should get my car in a week or so.
