Good or bad? My car has about 15k miles on it. I want to sell it for about $24k. Is it possible? See my sig for more detail on my car. Thanks

Dont know yet, I just want to know my car value. So, I went to one of big dealer near my work place (they have Toyota, Dodge, and Mazda). That is the price they gave me. They want 4% above invoice on Mazda6 wagon (I told them that I want a wagon). Is my car reasonable for $24k if I want to sell it on my own? Like I said, it has about 15k miles (mostly highway mileages).

So why trade a TSX for an M6 wagon? Just really want a wagon or are you unhappy with the TSX?

These things always intrest me.

Cars like that are going for about 23-24 on ebay so its a fair deal.

No No I'm very happy with TSX. I just want to know my car value, so I told them that I want a wagon. My brother wants a used van for his business. We'll sell my car, buy a used van, and I'll take over his 325i. So, if anybody here wants a used TSX, I'll let it go for $24,000. I'm in NJ. Call me at 551-580-1553. Thanks for looking.

So your brother is basically trading a 325 for a used van?

$23250 is an AWESOME trade in figure! Especially since you have 15k on your car. You could probably sell it yourself for $24k BUT why go through the hassle for 750 bucks??? Unless you have a buyer ready and willing to pay $24k for your car within the next few days, it's not worth it. Just trade it and let the dealer deal with trying to sell it.

If both tsx & 325i is manual, I will keep the tsx and sell the 325i. After I have my tsx for a week, it make me feel my E46 328i is an inferior car! The stick on the tsx is so slick, so smooth! How long I still need to wait until the car break-in then I can vtec this baby! I am afraid it will make me trade in my bimmer for another tsx! then my wife & I dun need to flight every morning for the tsx!

You said they have Dodge there.

How about a trade in for a Dodge Magnum with the 340 HP and 390 lb/ft of torque HEMI. That sounds like one hell of a wagon. I could easily forget about the rather spartan interior every time I put the pedal down on that puppy.

He needs it for his business. He is hardly driving his 325 anymore, no point to keep it and pay high insurance parking at home 6 days a week.

Well, the problem is my brother doesnt want a new van. He wants to buy a used van. That's why we have to sell it on our own. But I'll call that dealer again to see if they want to buy my car for that price. Many sale person there are excited when they hear that I want to trade my car. Maybe they want to buy it themselves. :P

Both are auto. I think we'll loose more money selling the bimmer. Plus, the bimmer is nearly brand new (a year old with only 6k miles!!!!) Like I said, he is hardly driving his car anymore.

How about a trade in for a Dodge Magnum with the 340 HP and 390 lb/ft of torque HEMI.
He wants to do that!! We both love the Magnum. But he wants to save some money.

Without any other information, that's a great (in fact somewhat on the high side even)trade in value.

However, when you trade there are two parts to the deal. It's easy to move money between the trade-in and the new car price (e.g. high trade + price near MSRP can net out to the same thing as low trade + price near invoice).

When trading a car, just keep your eye on the "trade difference" rather than the individual trade in or new car prices, because it's the only thing that matters.

If they had offered you a seemingly insulting 20K for your car but you got the other car for, say 30K (didn't see what car we were talking about here), that's a trade difference of 10K. There is absolutely no difference to you in this situation if they give you the "great" 24K trade-in value but you pay 34K for the new car. The trade difference is 10K in both cases.

I got a similar situation with my friend he wants to trade in his TSX 5AT/OEM KIT, NAVI, SPOILER, WOOD TRIM package, OEM MATS , Silver star RIMS for a MAZDA 3s 5door with NAVI, All options for $21,500 -He wants to do this because of lower monthly payment . I told him its not gonna work since he gots his TSX for only 6 months. The trade value will be big loss for him.

Congrats on the sale... With the money saved now, you could always look at purchasing another TSX in the future after the bimmer goes out..

if he wants a lower monthly payment, another option might be to obtain another loan with a longer term....you'll end up paying more interest ($$$$) in the long run but he still always has the option of putting in more per month or paying off early

I got ripped off on mine. I bought it in January 2004 w/navi and trade it to Audi for a S4 2 weeks ago they only gave me 21,000. Since I paid cash for it, I did not care. But you should atleast get 24k out of it.

After the bimmer, I want either the new RL or the next GS330 (2006?). I saw them at the NYC autoshow and fall in love.

Yeah, I want about $24,000. Put up a sign for 2 weeks, no one calls. If I wait a month or two, the price will drop to about $23,000 anyway. So I decide to let it go. I paid cash on mine too, so I save on the interest. Didnt feel like a big lost. Man, I miss my navi the most. No more, "go home" or "CD, play disc 2" anymore. So sad.... :'(

My brother got it from the internet about 4 years ago. It was passed down to me from his previous car, it didnt fit his bimmer, so he gave it to me.

Jumpper and DaiLo77,
Both of you took a big financial hit by getting rid of your cars. Everyone has reasons and I'm not trying to be too critical but for the money you lost in a few months ($5-7K) you could have leased whatever you wanted and had lower monthly payments. You might want to consider that option in the future if you think you might move from car to car so quickly. Hope you're enjoying your new rides. Happy trails!

You should take the 23,500 trade b/c of the tax savings. If you trade your car in you do not pay sales tax on the trade value. Which would save you 1440 based on 6% sales tax and 24K. So you may get an extra grand if u sell on your own (minus advertising costs) but you lose it back to uncle Sam when you buy.
