Climate Control

Hi All,

Should the auto cimate control system always be kept on when driving. Is there ever a time when it should not be used. Please advise.

LOL.

Sometimes when pollen or something is getting in the car, I'll override the automatic HVAC but hitting recirculate.

But, it is fine to turn the HVAC off if you arent' interest in climate control (like when you are driving around with the windows down).

It's your car, dude, do whatever you want. When it's nice out and your driving around with the windows/moonroof open leave it off so you don't have to worry about the ac coming on. When the outside temp is the same as the temp you would normally set the climate control on, leave it off, crack the moonroof and enjoy some fresh air.

Just a couple of examples.

Think of it like having central A/C and heating in your home, but in you car. You don't have to have it on all the time if the temperature is comfortable or if you want fresh air and open the windows or moonroof.

It does help regulate and maintain the same temperature...

But it's just a matter of preference?

Doesn't the manual say something to the effect that the HVAC should not be left off for extended periods of time--that it should generally be left on? This baffles me too, since I like leaving such systems off, and they can be left off in most areas of the country for 4 or 5 months when the temperatures are neither hot nor cold, just temperate. The other manual instruction that baffles me says that you should run the AC for ten minutes every once in a while during mid-winter. Does this automatically occur if you simply leave the AUTO on in the 70-74* range all winter, or do you need to do a manual over-ride to "run" the AC for ten minutes in mid-winter?

Well what I do know is the reason you should run the A/C every month or so during the winter is to keep the seals / ports lubercated and it will help it from having issues come spring.

The question about the auto is that it probably does run anyway. If its dry out then you only need the heater, but when its in the 30 something range where the windows get fogged up and you hit the front defroster switch, it turns on the a/c.

You have to remember the a/c is not only for cooling, but it also removes moisture from the air inside your car. So if its getting foggy / humid and your windows are steaming up if you throw on the front defrog it does turn on the a/c unit.

However I dont know if this satisfies Acura's note in the manual. Best thing to do would be to ask the service dept.

got a question:

if its cold out, and i have it set to auto with the temp on 80ish, is the a/c on the entire time/most of the time? it seems like if i have the climate control set to auto at 80 degrees, the air is cooler-warm, then if i have it on manual operation set to 80...
