Check Engine light

Does the check engine light come on at 10,000 miles to remind you to go get the service? Mine came on just recently at my 10000 mark. Just checking if it was a coincidence or not. I got my oil changed about 100-200 miles ago so I dont really wanna take it in again till the next oil change. You guys think that would be ok? Is the 10,000 service worth it? Cost? what do they do? I thought I read it was like $79 and all they do is rotate tires, check plugs and change oil. Let me know if im wrong.

Yep, you just have to reset it.

I believe it says 'maintenance req'd' but that's just a reminder. Isn't there a separate 'check engine' light?

The CEL is different from the Maint. required light. Be sure which one is on. If it's the CEL, tighten your gas cap and drive around for an hour. If it stays on, go to your dealer. If your maint light is on, you need to have your oil changed and your tires rotated and balanced.

After I had maintenance, the dealer forgot to reset the maintenance required light. I turned it off by holding in the mileage reset with the car off for several seconds then turning on the ignition.

Thanks heymista, I was looking for that piece of info since I change the oil myself.
Did the dealer tell you about it ?

Yes, it would help if I read it first

I just assumed it was a secret dealer procedure so that people would have to pay them a visit, and I mean pay.
