I agree that the plastic painted to look like aluminum does look cheap compared to real aluminum. I would even go as far to say that I would probably buy a kit that was actual aluminum. But the overall look and layout of the rest of the dash makes up for it. Ever check out the dashes on BMW's? They have all the style of a Soviet era tank...with a little wood trim here and there.

So you basically hate the dash because of the thin strip of plastic on it? Did you see the leather? As you said, it's entry level luxury, not luxury. There's a reason the cost of the car is less than 30K and plastic painted to look like aluminum on the dash is one of them.

Clearly, you are entitled to your opinion, but it is ridiculous to come to a TSX forum and tell us you were all ready to buy one until you saw this thin strip of plastic on the dash. You are in the minority if you think a '99 civic has a dash that "looks more expensive" (I would bet even a civic forum would agree with that one).

Take a look at the aluminum trim in the new G35 and then get back into the TSX. You'll be glad Acura went with fake aluminum trim. The real stuff, when executed poorly, can look worse than the fake stuff...

The kid comes in with a comparo on the Civic from 2 generations ago vs TSX....what does he expect? If it makes HIM feel better that he can rouse people for such an implausible assertion, he most likely needs to look inward at what's causing his inferiority complex to surface here on a TSX board. The TSX dash and our expected responses to his comparison don't need explanation in this case- period.

It likely he'd get the same responses from reasonable people on a Civic board or any other as well. But his purpose here is to troll, which is a reflection on him more than us.

Man if they put real aluminum trim then our cars should be way past 40k... some of those high end cars have gold....

I'm pretty sure its for practicality.

Honest our dash and set up is beautiful and even on the accord which has a similar setup is nice, i'm sure the new civics are getting it too.

Acura and honda has changed alot ot materials in the past going from 2000 honda odyessy and a accord 2001.

That looks like a 90s Ford Probe... which I believe was the first Ford-Mazda produced car (the Mazda equivalent was the MX-6 Mystere). Now, in terms of the body mods, talk about bastardizing a nice enough car...

Could that wing be any bigger?

Yeah, its a probe, and yeah the wing could be bigger, but I'll hold back the pics of that car with the plywood wing

As far as the VW and Audi comments, it is a night and day difference in materials. Also the wood on the Audi is not stuck on unless someone did an aftermarket kit. The dealer tried to push it on ours. Acura needs to step up the quality a little. I can take pictures of my TSX and point out numerous uneven gaps and areas where the felt gasket is poking out along the radio. I'm not sure how to touch up the scratches though. My Audi is 3 years older and has none. Mostly because it is a soft material and does not scratch.
I agree, the quality starting from the paint right through to the material quality inside the TSX cant be compared to a Audi, MB, Lexus, BMW, etc. This is where the $5000+ price difference is always seen (you pay for what you get).

Thanks for someone finally agreeing. Our cars are an under $30k car. This means Altima, G6, Accord and Mazda 6 are all competitors. Our dash material, grade of seat leather and stereos are not much better or not as good as some, but for a car in this range it is very good. The IS250 is only a few thousand more and is a different class. Not long ago the euro to dollar was much better and some German cars were around 30k. I know the TSX will out handle and accelerate an A4 with the 1.8t, but the level of quality was night and day. Acura and all other Japanese and American companies need to step up a little with the quality of materials. I don't want to here the cries of reliability either. A civic is reliable, we are talking luxury. Look at the new MDX. They are able to give you that much for $40k. Wow! Why can't some of that trickle down to the TSX. You are getting a hell of alot more for $10k.

I agree too, I mean BMW, Audi and MB are world renown for their stellar reliability.

BMW, Audi and MB are all great a stoking egos, and making people feel important. But if you are looking for a quality built product at a reasonable price, then I think Acura makes a fine choice.

Also if I chose to spend the extra money I would definitely choose a Lexus over BMW, Audi or MB.

This is hilarious! I personally like the random drawer thing in the middle. It looks pretty sweet.

According to my mother though, her coworker bought a higher end Lexus. She took my mom for a ride in it. My mom said it was nice, but the interior felt like crap compared to my car. TSX wins. I rock, not her coworker and her stupid Lexus.

The IS interior has some nice lines, especially on the doors (I LOVE the door handles), but the dash/console doesn't look nearly as good as in the TSX imo. Also, the base price of the IS is only a couple thousand higher but almost all the ones, even 250s, at dealerships run in the $40k's after you add in the little options that people want

What's with all the plastic dashes in new cars these days? Am I the only one who thinks it makes the car feel "cheap?" Even my '99 Civic looks like it has a more expensive dash (not sure what it is, but definitely not plastic)..
IMO I think the dash on my 06 tsx is alot more classy than my 05 honda civic ex-se. Did you look at the new civics-especially the si sedan. I personally think they are ugly when I first looked at them but the looks grew on me.

The dash in the TSX is great! My previous car (06 Accord) did have a much cheaper feel to it than the nice TSX (I love the dash in the TL...no hard plastics). The TSX does have hard plastic under the metal or wood trims, the TL has soft plastic. I do really like the dash materials they use in Lexus though.

What do you mean by hard plastics and soft plastics?
Sorry if that's a dumb question..

I agree.

For the price, TSX has a fairly good material. It is still a Honda, a redefined Honda, not a luxury car yet. I just can't stand one thing, rattles!

If it gives a little when you press your fingernail to it, consider it soft.
Two good examples of soft plastics in the TL where the TSX has hard plastic.
The map pockets on the doors, and the panels on the lower sides of the center console (next to the driver's right knee).

It seems like most new cars are being made with a hard plastic mold vs a plastic with a cushioned layer. I test drove the new IS and did not like the dash at all (feel, look, design) I really like the layout of the TSX and the material of the top portion of the dash would look good on the lower portion too. I think the design with the moonroof switch on the lower side is not a bad idea...it just needs to be one touch. Actually, everything in a new car now should be one touch!

totally disagree with the luxury statement. my car has 0 rattles and there's yet to be 1 person who's seen my car and sat in it who doubted it was a luxury car.
