Charged $ for a loaner?

Is anyone else getting charged an "Administrative Fee" for a loaner from the dealership?

It's only $10 (Acura of North Scottsdale, AZ), but come on. Even if I get sent to the Hertz down the street (if Acura is out of loaners) I get hit with a $8.75 "Administrative Fee".

I know it's not alot of $$, but I hate it when people stick their hands into my wallet and don't own up to what they are doing... Does it cost $10 to fill out the form to give me a loaner? Is the $10 really for the $2 worth of gas I will use?

OK, rant over...

Didn't pay any administrative fees when Thomas Acura (Covina, CA) gave me a TSX loaner.

Got a rental the other day from Westside Acura in Edmonton, Canada. They had no more loaners, so they paid for a Budget rental. Shitty thing is that Budget gave me a 2002 Pontiwreck Grand AM.... wtf, eh?

The only thing I had to pay for is the gas, which was only 4 bux... oh well.

OK, I just checked with all the Acura dealers in Phoenix, and two out of three charge a $10 fee (Administrative fee??!!??) for a loaner car!

The other (Acura of Tempe) does not charge, but will not give a loaner for work that takes 1.5 hours or less.

Guess I know where I am going to take my car for service from now on.

Dealers are always changing rules for loaners/rentals.

Ron Tonkin Acura in Oregon only gives loaner to 25 and older.
So for people with age below 25 they gave free rental from Enterprise.
Now no more free rental and only loaners.

Only choice for me when doing warranty work will be to use shuttle service...

Neither my dealer in Colorado or my dealer in Tampa charged for an Acura loaner and they'll both give one out for something as simple as an oil change.

Find a new dealer!!

No dealer has ever given me a loaner before, but there are times when it would have been appreciated; I'd pay for the privillage, if it kept people who are less needy from taking freebies.

Well, there was this one time, when the owner of a speed shop let me take his own personal Supra, while my Civic was being worked on - it was a worthwhile experience, and no, I didn't pay him for his car, specifically.

Charge for loaner? No way.

I had a 05 TL AT Navi as a loaner for 2 weeks, while I was getting my 04 TSX fixed under warranty. It took that long because the dealer was waiting for parts to arrive. Anyhow, I put on 1100 miles on it over than span. And of course didn't pay a penny except for filling up the gas.

I guess what I am saying is that if my service department told me that the cost covered:
1. cleaning the car between owners, inside and out
2. fueling the vehicle
3. ensuring there were enough loaners to always be available

I wouldn't have any problem paying the fee. The problem is that they get smug and defensive when I ask them what the fee covers, and I am left to assume it is paying for the dealership christmas party.

Additionally, the rental car company the dealership has a shuttle to charges an automatic $8.75 fee for the "free" rental from the dealership, although they don't make you pay for gas anymore.

This might be a good deal, but I never use more than a dollar of gas (to work and back from the dealership). I would rather pay for the gas I use!!

What's up Stogie1020? I'm in Tempe. I took my 04 TSX to Acura of Tempe to get the AC compressor replaced. They gave me an 04 TL for the 3 weeks it took to get one in and replace mine. Free. Talk to Jim, he was my service rep. Great guy, great service.

My dealer never has gave me a loaner because they said am 24 years old and I have to be 26? Is this just some BS by the dealer? Everytime I had to get a rental from enterprise which is next door at the acura dealership for $13.

Yea, and somehow everytime it's returned to the dealer there's a lil bit less gas left instead of being full where it probably was in the first place. When I got mine it was at half, then again who's really going to be ultra courteous and return the car with a full tank or make a run to the gas station just to fill up a gallon.

Hey Yui,

Yeah, Acura of Tempe was the only of the three in the Phoenix area that does ntot charge for a loaner, but they said they will not give one for service that only takes them between 0-1.5 hours (like oil change, etc.) I told the service guy thisd at scottsdale, and he just said "oh".

Guess I am going to Tempe from now on!!

My dealer recently started charging $5 for loaners. I'm not sure if it's $5 total or $5 a day since I only had it a day. They claim a new Ohio law makes it so that they have to charge something for a loaner or they could be liable if I were to wreck it. I think it's BS but my girlfriend had the same experience at her BMW dealer. Even so, if that's the case, couldn't they charge me a penny, or credit my service bill $5? It's the principle that really pisses me off. I spoke with the manager on duty about it and he wouldn't budge; I considered taking it up with Acura corporate but once I got home, it seemed like alot of trouble over $5, and also, I don't want to be the guy at the dealership that they all hate so they put less time and effort into my car out of spite, so I just pay it and let it contribute to the rage building up inside me. Because you know, it is best to just bottle all that up.

I just received a brochure in the mail from Lindsay Acura in Columbus, OH (who has never charged me a fee)

The brochure touts "Acura Complimentary Transportation" with the following quote: "Caring for your TSX requires regular maintenance, but that doesn't mean you have to stop your life. Bring your car to us and we'll provide you with complimentary transportation. Simply request transportation when you make your appointment and leave the rest to us."

That's the way it should be!

If you are getting charged a fee, I would call the Acura 800# and file a dealer complaint.

I had service done on my Lexus and there was no charge. I took my TL in for warranty repairs, they told me to rent a car out of my own pocket or take a shuttle to a mall, but don't care how you come back. What gives?

My dealer did not charge me for any $$$ for their loaners. What I know that its a gesture of courtsey for giving them your business. I had 3 loaners from Acura of Lynnwodd (did not buy my car there). I returned the car without filling gas on it. The last time I got a B service from them, they charged me $130, they gave me a TL loaner with a full tank of gas, returned it with 1/4 of gas. Did not hear anything. I think it varies by how the Acura dealership is managed.
