Cassette option

I just picked up my new Artic Blue Pearl TSX on Saturday 7/19/03 and had them install the optional cassette stereo. (it goes where the storage compartment is underneath the Navi or CD player). I originally was going for the rear spoiler but reading the comments on the board here, it looked like a waste of money. I paid $400 extra for the cassette so if anybody gets a better deal, let me know. I have to say that Acura included every function, search forward, reverse, program, repeat and you can even use the steering wheel controls. Quite a good investment at least for me. Does anybody think I paid too much for this?

Paid too much relative to other dealer installed cassette decks, or to after market decks?

Perhaps you could have haggled them down a bit more, but there is no doubt that ANY acura installed accesory is over priced. The bottom line is you got a cassette deck that is made for this car, so it will look good and the fact that it works with the steering wheel controls is pretty cool (i didnt think it would).

The Honda Cassette player (which I believe is identical, other than some trim pieces) is only $292. I believe acura's price is about the same (the mp3 player prices for acura vs honda are almost exactly the same). I think they overcharged you, but it's definitely better than trying to fit an aftermarket player.

Hey, Mo -- there's a long separate thread on this.

It's not so much that it's a bad investment per se; it's that a lot of people, if not most, feel it contributes nothing and worsens the appearance. Then again, other people disagree.

$400 bones sounds too much since allmost all new music is on disc, you could burn all your old favourite songs onto disc and never need to bother with a tape again. Its been at least 5 years since I've listened to a tape. I switched my collection over years ago. I honestly think you should have invested in the MP3 instead and a have a "techy" friend move all your tapes to MP3 (you could fit at least 8 tapes onto 1 MP3 Disc).

Its kinda like spending $500 on a VCR when a good one is available for $100, yet have almost become extinct. DVD's have already surpassed VHS.

Cassette is really useful for people who do some live music recording. In many situations cassette recording is the easiest to do -- so we have a lot of cassettes that we don't necessarily want to have to burn to discs.

I got the cassette option, and I'm thrilled.

I am not sure why anybody would really want a cassette player in their car nowadays, but to each their own. Even though the MP3 player is kinda shitty from Acura, I would not have minded getting it, but not for the price...eh.

I got the Acura MP3 player, it sucks! I got it only because it was either the MP3 player or 2 more weeks for my car.

I would have waited two more weeks if I had to pick from a cassette or two weeks.

IMO the thing about 8-track isn't just how far back it goes, it's that it had a life-span of about 10 minutes!

Other than not showing the MP3 TAGS how does it suck? I was thinking about getting one if I could get it at a good price.

It does not display anything other than track number. No X-fade. No fast forward/backward. Extremely long load time. I think that's about it.
