Carrera GT Full Test in AutoWeek

http://www.autoweek.com/cat_content...._code=07397048

Stats:

0-60 MPH: 3.5 sec
0-100 KM/H (62.1 MPH): 3.63 sec
0-100 MPH: 7.06 sec
0-QUARTER-MILE: 11.35 sec @ 129.5 mph
0-100 MPH-0: 11.6 sec, 882 ft
20-40 MPH (FIRST GEAR): 1.1 sec
40-60 MPH (SECOND GEAR): 1.3 sec
60-80 MPH (SECOND GEAR): 1.4 sec
60 MPH-0: 104 ft

From what I can remember about the Enzo, the GT is just a fraction slower. The Enzo ran to 60 in 3.1 and through the 1/4 mile in 11.1. It also ran to 100 MPH in 6.6. But the GT is less than half the cost.

Not to mention that the Carrera GT is an open-top car with a little less displacement. I do like that the Porsche employs a new carbon ceramic clutch that is not only lighter, but smaller in diameter (7.65" vs. 15.6" for a Turbo clutch).

I'm surprised that it "only" pulled 0.95g on the skidpad. I thought it would have broken 1g for sure.

I screwed up BTW. I was thinking CAD dollars when I said "half the cost". The Enzo is more than 1 mill CAD but $660,000 US right?

Except for the braking, those numbers look like something my '91 CBR600 bike is capable of. And I have it for sale for $1000.

So you are infering that the GT is a better buy because its faster in a straight line?

The Enzo, or any supercar for that matter should never be compared based on 1/4 time. Thats just not what these cars are meant to do. The Enzo has incredible amounts of downforce which significantly inhibit its acceleration. But put it on a race track with some turns and its untouchable.

If they wanted to tune it for drag I'm sure it could pull much better numbers. Most super cars will fair poorly at a dragstrip (relative to their price).

The GT is'nt faster in a staright line.

But I agree with what your saying. But what it comes down to is bragging rights. When the Enzo was tested by C&D and R&T there was no mention of how much downforce it had or what it was designed to do. Its all about bragging rights and both articles talked alot about the Enzo's times versus those of the Mclaren F1 which also was not designed to be a 1/4 mile burner. People want to know what it can do. Having said that, the 0-100-0 test is a great indicator of how a car would perform on a track where you often speed up tp 100 and then slow down to almost nothing. The British put a great deal value on that stat and not 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

But I'm willing to bet the GT could more than hold it sown with the Enzo even on a track. Here's hoping one of the big mags can get lucky enough to test both at the same time. (I'm guessing it will be nearly impossible)

Ya, americans love their 1/4 time. And it really doesnt do these cars justice.

I'm sure the GT is a monster on a race circuit. GT vs Enzo ...

I do think the Enzo's price is inflated though. Its partially due to the fact that they build less than they know there is demand for. Its also a "Ferrari". Both of these factors make it one of the few cars that actually appreciate in value .. making the high price worth it. Its just like someone who spends loads on high priced art - they are not spending foolishly,...quite the contrary.

Man I hope Best Motoring (or whatever it's called) get's their hands on a GT and an Enzo to put them head to head on a track. That would be killer.

Here's the test: Nurburgring, East Sector. First one to a 7:20 lap wins. I'll drive.

Or Top Gear. Although I'm afraid they might try to drop an RV on it (like that Toyota truck).

Top Gear just isnt the same without Tiff Needel. That crazy SOB can drive!

I've got a video of him test driving the Enzo on a race circuit. They gave him 5 minutes with the car and he pulled the fastest journalist lap time.

I wonder how I'd do at a civilian testing like that. I'm not a bad driver for someone that doesn't do it for a living. That would be sweet to get to toss around a couple of supercars. I've only been lucky enough to play with a couple Ferraris (one was my brother's old car), my baseball buddy Beckett's old Diablo, and numerous Porsches. Yeah, I used to work for Porsche. It doesn't really count for getting a priviledge. I'm just a Porsche nut that knows a bunch of guys with sweet cars I guess.
