Cargo Net and Oil Changes question

Just bought my TSX yesterday. Took the cargo net from my old Honda Accord. I could not figure out where the cargo net attaches to in the trunk. lol Can anyone tell me if there's a post hidden some where, or if they put posts in if you buy the cargo net?

Also, I was reading the manual, and it looks like oil changes are every 10,000 miles? Filter is every 20k miles? Does this seem right? I've always done mine every 3k to 5k. 10k just seems like a very long time to change oil.

The manual does say to change oil at very large intervals, Honda must believe its engine is that reliable. My dealership said a more realistic time frame is 10k for first change (for breakin), 5k for every subsequent change. Many here do 3k no matter what.

The cargo net mounts come with the cargo net when you buy it, then you get to do some drilling!

Gotta have the TSX kit and drill some nasty holes in the car.

I use nothing but synthetic and let my run to 5k this past change. Let me just say, 5k seemed like a lot since i used to change every 3-4k. I also was down 1 qt. in that 5k, so I can imagine what conventional oil looks like in that time.

Stick to the 5k interval, both oil and filter. Make the synthetic optional.

5k is best. I'm near 26,000 miles and the car is great!

Yeah, I change Every 5 k.....and even though it was rediculiously early, I changed the engine over to Synthetic Oil at 2500 miles

Honda Claims you dont have to, and it dosent really make a difference, but they also claim u should only use their oil

Great! So, I should not go by the manual, but instead should change the oil every 5k just to be sure, along with the filter. I wanted to switch to synthetic, but wasn't sure if it would make that much of a real difference.

Anyone know if it will or not? Any linkies to a thread already discussing this?

Don't know about a thread, but there is a general rule of thumb about conventional vs. synthetic... if you change conventional every 3k, it is just as good as synthetic. If you are the type of person who misses oil changes by 1k, then a sythetic is a better option. Conventional just breaks down sooner and releases contaminents whereas synthetics don't.

FYI, plenty on the break-in oil. It is false that it is special. What everyone considers to be special is all the moly used to assemble the end. It ends up in the oil and people think that the oil is special since it has high levels of moly in it. Not true. Manufactures use whatever oil company they have the best deal with.

I personally use Mobil 1 in all my cars, but my buddy likes Catrol Synth. My 1989 BMW 325i went to 187k with Mobil 1 in it most of its life and my mechanic commented on the valve-train by saying it looked better than the one he had that only had 60k on it (some guy collected 325is).

The manual says its special break-in oil. Folks can do what they want but going against the manual can't be all good.

Regarding the cargo net...

I bought the Acura kit and followed the directions. The holes you drill are really holes through the felt trunk lining -- no metal was harmed.

It was a bit involved, essentially disassembling the interior of the trunk to get at the bulk heads screw in some metal inserts. Reassembly and punching the holes mentioned above. Took my time the directions were clear and it all worked as promised.

As for oil, I follow the manual. I figure Honda knows best. If they thought constant oil changing would keep their cars running and their customers happy they'd have recommended it. I see it a waste of resources -- oil, time and money.

Besides with my first car '76 VW Beetle, I did all the 3000mile oil changes, valve adjustments, and timing tweaking I ever wanted to do. That's why I bought a Honda and now the Acura.

I have the service manual, but you can't dispute the chemical analysis done on the original oil. I'm only telling you what the analysis that was done and the only thing found in the oil was higher levels of moly and boron (a stabilizer).

All good info! Thanks every one. I'm not going to tear apart my trunk just to put in a cargo net. lol

Think I'm going with synthetic, maybe every 5-10k depending on how the levels are at 5k.
