Car Size

I am 6'5", I can't fit into a lot of cars especially cars with Sunroofs. No Accords, no VW's, Not even any BMW 3-Series.

Does anyone know if the TL or TSX will be able to house a large individual?

acl06 08-01-2007 05:17 PM

consumer reports or some other magazine said both the TL and TSX can fit a tall person comfortably in the driver's seat and are good picks for tall drivers. I had a 6'3" guy sit in the passenger seat in it and he was fine. The person sitting behind you however may not feel so happy, but then again, you prob won't have more than 2 people in your car most of the time anyway.

I think it depends on what type of 6'5" you are (long/short legs, long/short torso, long/short arms, proportioned body, long Conan O’Brien head, underweight, overweight, etc).

I'm 6'3”, 315lbs with size 14 shoes and I had to get used to the fact most cars do not fit me also. I don’t have any problems with finding a comfortable position in the 5AT TSX for normal city driving (I am used to stuffing myself in a car for the last 25 years).

My head is about 1 ½ - 2 inches from the sun-roof. I’ve never touch my head on the sunroof while driving (I did smack my head on the door like a dumb-ass getting in/out of the car when I first purchased).

For road trip +2 hours, I have to wear shoes/flip-flops I can remove easily to stretch my legs out straight between the pedals every once in a while. The gas pedal is too close for me and I do get a slight cramp in my bent right leg on long road trips without cruise control. I would love to have adjustable pedals and/or 3-5 inches of extra seat travel to be absolutely 100% perfect.

I’ve also notice once you break the seat in, you get some extra headroom. I would sit in a used TSX to see how the car will fit with a few miles on the Odo.

my guess is, if you don't fit in an accord (U.S. version) then you won't fit into the tsx (Euro/Japan Accord). But the only way to find out is to go take a test drive. And make sure you test drive the TL Type S. :drag: :naughty:

I'm 6'5" 250lbs and I've been driving mine for 4 years now...

^^ is it time already to break out the Dan pic?

my brother is 6'6" I'm 6'1" and dad is 6'4" we all fit in the TSX with room to move the seat further back. back seat room is compromised, but it's definitely not a "Squeeze" situation by any stretch (woah full of puns there, sorry)

thunder04 08-02-2007 11:23 AM

I'm 6' tall and the car is comfortable, but I don't have much room to spare above my head
(maybe a little more than the average finger thickness). I used to spike my hair, but now I try to avoid doing that because my hair will rub against the ceiling and it drives me CRAZY lol. If I do, then I slouch in the seat or recline it back a little.

I think it all depends how you sit in your car. I'm not a sloucher/recliner. The back of my seat is fairly straight. Other than the lack of room above my head, the car is very comfortable. Like others have said, go take a test drive in one and see how she fits!

Dom is 5'1'' and he's been driving his two tsxs since April 2003 with no issues. It just took him a few months to collect enough phone books to see over the dash.

:2cents:

I think you might issues with the headroom. I'm 6'3, and the VW Jetta and BMW 325 are among the few cars I can fit in. The TSX was marginal compared to my 2001 Jetta as far as hitting my head on the sunroof, but I fit.

Be sure you adjust the seat height when testing, if you haven't been already.

(Note on the Jetta -- there was a huge difference in headroom between cars with leather seats and cars with cloth. I couldn't sit in a leather-seat Jetta without hitting my head on the roof, but was fine in the cloth seat, even with the seat height almost all the way up).

My dad's 6'5", 38" inseam, and he uhhh... "fits" in the TSX, and I would even say he characterizes the fit as comfortable (when he's driving). But only severely height-challenged or legless individuals can sit behind him. He bought a TL instead, but he regrets it - he wanted better gas mileage and he can't throw the TL around like the TSX. I think he also wanted a 6sp...

Yes, height alone isn't enough to answer the question.

This means your dad's torso is comparatively short, which means he should not have head room issues.

I'm 6'3", but have a 34" inseam, which means I sit an inch or two inch higher in a seat than your dad even though he is two inches taller when standing.

Even with the shorter inseam, though, I still have my seat all the way back and would have to move up to have anyone sit behind me.

My dad is 6'-4" and he can't drive my TSX. He has very long legs and his knees stick way up in the air when he sits in the driver's seat. He would rather drive his Mercedes S550...which is a car that deserves its own area code. But my brother, who is 6'-5" and seems to be a bit more evenly spread out, has no problems driving my TSX. It really all depends on the person. Luckily, I'm an average height of 5'-10" and any car is a perfect fit for me.

Exactly. I think I got my dad's inseam wrong - it's only 36" (not as weirdly shaped as I thought ), so you and he stick up about the same but his legs are even worse off (more bunched up).

Either way, it's harder to imagine how either of you is truly comfortable, since at 6'1" & 33" inseam I already don't have much headroom if I actually sit up straight. I bought the TSX because I couldn't do that in the Civic...

Long story short, you Redwoods should buy a TL. :)
